12月21日，世界沉浸在“末日”的傳言和不安里。有的人去“被救”的地方等候，有人集聚家人以便能"死在一起"。有人笑談“末日“的荒謬，有人相信一切在末日歸零。大多數的人，則按着日程表上的勞作，揮汗如雨地繼續拼搏。
12月21日，我上班，下班。晚上，和朋友們去看多倫多交響樂團和曼德森（Mendelssohn）合唱團演出的，持續了75年的聖誕節傳統節目，亨德爾的《彌賽亞》。
這是我在20年裡第三次在聖誕節去聽多倫多交響樂團的《彌賽亞》。這一次唯一的不同是在“世界末日”，心中不免多了一層期盼。
亨德爾只用了24天就完成了清唱劇（oratorios）《彌賽亞》的創作。英國著名的音樂編輯Nicholas Kenyon說：《彌賽亞》不只是一部偉大的音樂作品，它也是西方文明的紀念碑，是音樂演出史上的傳奇。
1742年，《彌賽亞》的首場演出是在愛爾蘭的首都都柏林。最初的演出只有18人的合唱團和33件管弦樂器。後來，莫扎特1789年重新編譜，同年的倫敦的演出合唱團有275位， 樂器有248件。1859年，倫敦舉行亨德爾逝世100周年紀念，合唱團的人數高達2765人，樂器達到460件之多。到了1869年，美國波士頓“和平日節慶”演出時，更創下了萬人合唱《哈利路亞》，500件樂器伴奏的曠世記錄。
12月21日，位於多倫多市中心的Roy Thomson Hall里座無虛席。看來，有很多人和我一樣，選擇在這裡度過自己的“末日”。
雖然，我不是第一次聽亨德爾《彌賽亞》的現場音樂會。我依然被深深地它打動。當男高音一唱出comfort ye（你們要受安慰），忽然，270年前，亨德爾在聖靈啟示下用音符奮筆疾書，描繪先知以賽亞對盼望救贖主的以色列民宣告彌賽亞到來的畫面在我眼前活了起來。在末日的不安中，“你們要受安慰”的歌聲從天而降，也把安慰送進每個焦灼不安的靈魂。
從天而降的安慰里，我看見剛剛經歷美國校園槍擊案的小城，站在在上帝的面前，在痛苦的深淵裡。有聲音對他們說：“受安慰我的百姓……一切山窪都要填滿……耶和華的榮耀必然顯現，凡有血氣的，要一同看見“。
末日，並不是我們這個時代的發明，《聖經》早就預言，有一天，耶穌要再來，天地要廢去，世界上的國也要過去。
末日，是提醒也是盼望。那些在患難中先於我們睡了的親人，就要在上帝的榮光中像耶穌一樣復活。
末日，沒有什麼可誇耀的。一切的財富名利都如穿過的破衫，在永恆的光中一錢不值。
末日，在上帝到來的日子裡，不但“方舟”要廢去，人手所建的一切輝煌都黯淡無光。
末日，罪惡沖天，人如羊迷失，個人偏行己路
末日，天使依然宣告："不要懼怕，今天，在大衛的城裡，為你們生了救主，就是主基督。”
音樂廳傳來天使的歌聲“看哪， 你的王來到你這裡。他是公義的，並且施行拯救”。 “凡勞苦擔重擔的，可以到我這裡來，我就使你們得安息”。我祈禱，願末日，每一顆靈魂都在造他愛他的創造主裡面得到安慰，並得以安息。
1743年，《彌賽亞》在倫敦上演，英王喬治二世親臨劇院。當英王聽到第二部分的終曲《哈利路亞》的合唱時，按捺不住內心的激動，站立起來聽完了全曲。從此，站着聽《哈利路亞》就成為《彌賽亞》音樂會的傳統。無論你是誰，在“萬王之王，萬主之主”面前，只能屈膝敬拜。
同樣，12月21日晚，當“哈利路亞”的樂曲剛響起，全場的觀眾和領唱的藝術家們集體起立，仰望賜下救贖的基督，盼望耶穌的再來。我站在眾人當中，心想：如果今天是末日，在此刻，在“哈利路亞”的歌聲中去見上帝該是多麼美的福氣啊。
但是，亨德爾的《彌賽亞》並沒有在“哈利路亞”聲中結束。略帶淒婉的女聲在“哈利路亞”的大合唱後猶如等待中的哭訴，也如等待中守望的晚祭。
"我知道我的救贖主活着”是我《彌賽亞》中的最愛。它是苦難中的信仰，是困惑里的堅信，是沒有盡頭中的盼望：
”我知道我的救贖主活着
末了必站立在地上
我這皮肉滅絕之後
我必在肉體之外得見神“
我想，這不僅是約伯的相信，也是我內心的盼望。也許，我在肉身之內看不到主再來的日子，也許我在主再來之前還要受許多的煎熬。但是，因為我知道我的救贖主是復活的主， 就能輕看世上一切臨到我的。就是死亡,也無法把我和上帝的愛隔開。
末日，上帝讓我再一次看見死亡的真實，死亡的醜陋.
末日，上帝提醒我：耶穌已經勝過死亡，有一天，我也要在永恆的救贖里改變
末日，有聲音從天上說：你是我的女兒
末日，我和天使一起高歌：願頌讚，尊貴，榮耀，權勢，都歸給坐寶座的和羔羊，直到永永遠遠。
兩個半鐘頭的音樂會如同一世，帶我從末日的沮喪，走進到榮耀的盼望。
