藤儿点评：当牛津词典在线版（Oxford Dictionary Online）正式将「emoji」一词纳入其中的那一刻起，就意味着「emoji」已经跻身浩瀚的的英文词汇之林，成为了一个正式的词汇。
然而很多人却不知道，「emoji」一词并非来自英语，它实际上起源于日语。
「emoji」的相应中文表达为“表情符号”/“符号表情”。
「emoji」来自日语词汇“絵文字”（假名为“えもじ”，读音即emoji）。
「emoji」现在已经通过互联网横扫手机短信和网络聊天软件和电子邮箱，成为当今十分流行的一种表情符号。「emoji」的创造者是栗田穣崇(Shigetaka Kurita)，其灵感集日本漫画和日本汉字之中的各种元素之大成。直到iOS 5在2011年底发布，这种表情符号一举登上国际舞台。之后，随着人们弄懂了如何在手机上激活这些符号，它们开始在Twitter、Instagram和轻博客Tumblr等各个网站上生根发芽。并如火如荼地蔓延至数不清的手机短信和网络聊天平台。
