To experience the real business world, I cooperated with my like-minded friend and started my small business selling nail polish in summer vacation in 2010. Owing to a variety of nail polishes, I firstly had a price comparison and quality investigation in the wholesale market before selling. Actually, there were two choices for me that time. I could buy a cheap nail polish but harmful to personal health or the other one that was more expensive with fewer side effects. I started thinking about these two alternatives. The cheap one was popular and generally accepted, which would perhaps help me attract more customers. However, its strong side effects really made me take a second thought.
alternatively, I could choose a water-soluble nail polish with a little higher price but fewer side effects for sales. Although the product feature of high quality and lower side effect to human body could be highly emphasized, I could not accurately estimate the responses from customers, who were that sensitive to price. Maybe, it would be greeted with poor market reaction. Thus, I kept asking myself, which one should I choose?
For making the final decisions as soon as possible, I had a further investigation on different kinds of nail polishes, especially in terms of toxic components for health. Through collecting data widely, consulting experts concerned and making random interviews, together with my professional business ethics, I chose the latter. As a matter of fact, my decision turned out to be right. Unexpectedly, this new nail polish aroused strong repercussions. By virtue of good quality and word-of-mouth recommendations, the product celebrated ever-increasing customer groups from different ages. My persistence in professional ethics and accurate judgments of market trend also contributed to my business success and helped me create more profits. Therefore, I am quite satisfied with the end result.
Facing this ethical dilemma, I indeed handled it differently. If I chose to sell shoddy nail polish, maybe I would gain greater profitability owing to its lower purchase price in comparison with the water-soluble ones. However, my right choice not only unexpectedly brought me more customers, but also more strengthened my determination to insist on doing things right in business. Regardless of smaller profits, however, business ethics will definitely make a difference. Moreover, my father’s successful entrepreneurial experience also tells me that profession ethics and a long-term view are essential for an entrepreneur in the real business world. We should pay more attentions to long-term benefits rather than short-term ones. This business experience in the night market makes no sense for me if I just look at making money at the sacrifice of customers’ health. With the rapid development of modern enterprises, great contradictions between enterprises and customers have been intensified for lacking of professional ethics. Likewise, if enterprises fail in providing high-quality products and services, as long as the trust relationship is broken, they will hardly compete in this business world in the long run.
As for my career objectives, I hope to establish a business ethics culture in my company as a business strategy in a long run, providing specialized financial services without any commercial deceit. To get the feel of the authentic business world, I started my small business by cooperating with my like-minded friend in the summer vacation of 2010, selling nail polish in a local night market.
Facing a variety of nail polishes, I firstly made a price comparison and quality
investigation in the wholesale market. Then, it boiled down to two apparent
choices for me at the time: choose either a cheap, popular, well sought-after nail polish but harmful to health or the other one that was water- soluble, fairly
more expensive with fewer side effects and prospective customers as well. I found myself overwhelmed in a sort of dilemma.
Although the higher quality and lower side effect to human body of the latter
could be promoted emphatically as its special features and selling point, I was still feeling unable to accurately pre-estimate the response from a majority of
customers, who were that sensitive to its price. What if it was greeted with poor
market reaction and left in slack demand? I kept asking myself, which one
should I choose to start with?
To reach a final decision as soon as possible, I decided to look into further
different kinds of nail polishes, especially their toxic components in regard to
health. Through collecting data extensively, consulting experts concerned
and conducting random interviews, together with the predominant conviction
of my professional business ethics, I chose the latter. As a matter of fact, my
decision turned out to be perfectly right. The new nail polish, much to my

of ever-increasing customer groups at different ages.
Well rewarded in profits, I would attribute this initial success in business to
my persistence in professional ethics and sensible judgment of the market
trend, with the end result of which I am very well satisfied.
In retrospect, had I chosen to sell shoddy nail polish, the profits might have
been somewhat greater due to its lower purchase price than that of the
water-soluble one. Nevertheless, I am of the firm opinion that honest profits,
rather than filthy lucre, should not be generated to the detriment of customers' health and well-being if one wants to feel no compunctions of conscience in engaging in his/her businesses on a sustainable basis over the long run.
My right choice not only brought me more customers unexpectedly, but also
further strengthened my resolve to insist on doing the right things at the right
time in business. Despite the lure of slightly more profits, business ethics
definitely will make a difference eventually.
Moreover, my father’s successful entrepreneurial experience indicates to me
too that for an entrepreneur, professional ethics and a long-term view are
essential in the real business world. We should pay more attention to long-
term benefits than short-term ones. Had I just laid my eyes on money-making
at the sacrifice of customers’ health, the business experience in the night
market would have made no sense to me.
With the rapid development of modern enterprises, great conflict of interest
between suppliers and end-users has been intensified over time for the lack of professional ethics. Likewise, if enterprises fail to provide high-quality products and services, once the mutual trust in relationships is abused and lost, they will

In writing, redundancy means conveying the same meaning twice.Like other kinds of wordiness, redundancy makes writing seem cluttered. Sometimes people use redundant expressions because they don't know the precise definition of a word. For example, close proximity is redundant because proximity by itself meansnearness. Ask yourself: Is there any other kind of nearness than close nearness? Other times people use redundant expressions because they don't pay attention to what they are writing: small in size, few in number, or red in color.

Personal Statement – for Program of Science in Finance
Born in a family of business, I have exposure to a topflight business circle my father, a successful entrepreneur, established in the past decades. Frequent business contacts and charity parties have endowed me with sharper business sense, good concept of investments and sensitive judgment for market. To experience the real business world, therefore, I cooperated with my like-minded friend and started my small business in summer vacation in 2010, selling nontoxic environmental-friendly water-soluble nail polish in night market that was still a gap in the market at that time. The brand-new business opportunity and targeted marketing strategy indeed brought me ever increasing customers but narrow margin because of higher purchase cost. Since the project has the prospective development potential, I wonder whether it is possible to create and operate my own brand. In order to solve the problem of funds, I submitted a loan application to the bank but was rejected owing to the lack of fixed income and formal financial statements. Turning to my father, however, I was also refused. My work experience in financial products has seen increase during my internship in Standard Chartered Bank in 2012. enterprise culture my father, a successful entrepreneur,
established in China decades ago and has fostered ever
since. Getting involved in frequent business contacts
and charity parties has endowed me with a sharp
business sense, shrewd concept of investments and
sensible judgment for the relevant market.
In an effort to gain real-world business experience on
my own, I started my small business by collaborating
with my like-minded friend in the summer vacation of
2010, selling nontoxic eco-friendly water-soluble nail
polish in a local night market when the item still was
hardly available at the time. The fresh business

brought me with ever-increasing customers on one
hand as previously expected, but a narrow margin of
profit on the other, due to higher purchasing cost.
Since the project promised so well for further
development, an idea occurred to me, why not create
and market my own brand of it. In order to solve the
problem of start-up funds, I submitted a loan application
to a local bank, only to be rejected later owing to the
lack of fixed income and formal financial statements.
Turning to my father for help, however, I was also
declined. "My girl, the rational investment is based on
comprehensive market research, data analysis, risk
prediction and control rather than intuitive judgment.
In your subsequent few-years study of international
finance, you will gradually perceive and apprehend the
true investment philosophy."
Up to now, my father's thought-provoking remarks are
still lingering in my mind, encouraging me to strive to
be a highly qualified practitioner in investment and
financing.
Being educated at University Malaysia Sabah majoring
in International Finance for ? years, I have not only
mastered solid theoretical knowledge and necessary
skills such as financial software operation, data
analysis, presentation, but also accumulated more
experience in real-life financial community while the
actual stress was laid upon the course of the
integration of theory with practice.
In the summer holidays in 2011, I embarked on an
internship lasting a month and a half in the Bank of
Hebei in China . Starting from the most basic banking
business, I assisted a lobby manager in completing the
work of front desk inclusive of helping clients fill out
forms, providing advisory services, maintaining order
and so on, during which I made great improvements in
my communication skills and professional
conscientiousness with regard to minute details.
A couple of weeks later, entering a comprehensive
business department, I began to learn SME (small and
medium-sized businesses ) loan auditing business with
senior staffs and familiarized myself step by step with
the fundamental workflow, transactional operations,
and relevant procedures, more importantly, my abilities
in financial analysis and judgment were constantly
enhanced in practice. For instance, once, after
examining a fox-breeding enterprise's financial
statements which showed good revenue and high rate
of return on investment on the surface, I thought it
accorded with our lending criteria. Then, senior
workers came to remind me that we should look into
the problems hidden behind the financial data and take
various factors into consideration. Through field
research and cash flow analysis, it turned out that this
feeding enterprise spent an excessive amount of money
on the foxes’disease prevention and control, over which
a great bad loan risk loomed large actually. This
experience deepened my awareness that through
corporate financial data, a wide range of information
such as market prospects, enterprises' operational
conditions, potential risks and so forth can be dug out
accordingly, enabling us to timely adjust their
developmental strategies and to avoid risks ahead for
enterprises.
To set up my own financial consulting firm for Chinese
enterprises, particularly SMEs, it is my firm belief that
your program certainly can equip me with more
professional financial analysis skills and approaches.
My work experience in rendering financial products
service has seen an impressive increase during my
internship in Standard Chartered Bank in 2012.
Assigned to the finance department, I made a meticulous
study of the brochure of financial products and provided
customers with basic financial advisory services. During
that period, it was essential for me not only to figure out
the characteristics of diversified financial products, the
rate of return, and applicable customer groups, but also
to quickly understand clients' genuine needs and
recommend target products appropriately. At times,
due to some unreasonable design of the current
instructions of financial products, clients in general
were prone to fail to timely discern and comprehend
the trend of high-yield financing, giving rise to the
decrease of market reaction (??). Discovering
circumstances like this, in cooperation with the team
and departments related, I took the initiative to have
calculated the ratio of inputs and outputs in recent
years, and drew a yield curve by means of the
financial analytical methodology, hence helping to
improve and revise the product prospectuses in
question.
Although this fulfillment of internship, to a certain
extent, has augmented my competence in handling
banking businesses, marketing techniques and
interpersonal skills, it has also alerted me on the
insufficiency of my knowledge in various kinds of
investment analysis and market risk evaluation, this
further fortifies my determination to pursue my
graduate studies in your academic program.
Living a colorful life on campus, I was also keen on
developing my leadership skills and planning ability,
preparing myself to become a more competitive
applicant for your program. As a first international
student in Students' Union of the college, I, the Exco
International (?), kept communicating with friends of
diverse cultural backgrounds, planning and executing
extracurricular activities from time to time.
One of the most impressive events was the Family Day
that attracted a great number of international students

make handicrafts for sale on the scene, which greatly

Your program is extremely absorbing to me owing to the
following reasons. First and foremost, it will furnish me
with all the indispensable core courses pertinent to
professional investment analysis, financial management
and mathematics that I crave for. By acquiring those
courses, my faculty of financial venture will be elevated
and my understanding of the financial industry will be
more profound. Secondly, those capabilities including
data analysis ability and communication skills on which
I lay much emphasis will be further developed in your
program. Last but not the least, your program will provide
me with lots of practice opportunities, which can further
strengthen my ability of exerting theory to solve practical
financial problems as well as those of investment decision
making in real situation. I do hope I can become a qualified
professional in the field of finance with both sound specialty

Upon completion of the program, I intend to work in a well-
known investment bank specializing in corporate
businesses at first. At the same time, I will sit for the CFA
exams and pass all the courses required three years later.
In virtue of this international platform, I hanker for
accumulating more professional ability in corporate data
analysis, investment decision-making and risk control,
paving the way for my long-term career goal.
After gathering adequate experience in corporate
investment, instead of taking over my father's business, I
will contemplate setting up my own financial consulting
company for providing SMEs with professional services
covering investment, banking, financing and legal affairs.

What is the difference between much better and more better?
"Better" is an adjective, a description word. It's the comparative
form of "good." Good, better, best. It is called the comparative form
because it compares things: we say something is "better than"
something else.
"Much" is an adverb and modifies an adjective. "Much better" is a
meaningful expression because we can talk about "better"
comparisons as a matter of degree--somewhat better, a little better,
much better, a lot better.
"More" is another adjective, and it's another comparative adjective.
It has the same job as "better." It can't modify "better." They are two
things of the same kind, and you can use one or the other but not both.
Put another way, "more better" is redundant because the meaning of
"more" is already in the word "better." "Better" really means "more
good."
So the difference is that "much better" is a grammatical expression
that you can use to describe something. "More better" is an
ungrammatical expression. It's okay to say "much better," and it isn't
okay to say "more better."

What is the difference between the words inspiring and inspirational? In which context should one choose one over the other?
One difference is that inspiring always means that someone is inspired, whereas inspirational can also be used in compounds where it means only that something is intended to inspire; an inspirational speaker (or "motivational speaker"), for example, is someone whose job is to give speeches that are intended to inspire, without regard for whether they succeed (so "boring inspirational speaker" is not a contradiction in terms), and similarly, an inspirational poster (or "motivational poster") is a poster that is (supposedly) intended to inspire positive qualities, but I don't think it generally succeeds.
