《诗经·秦风·蒹葭》是中国历史记载上的第一首言情诗，广为古今有情人吟诵称道，其中最激动人心的是“在水一方”的第一段，但中外翻译家就此出版之作大且不算成功，特此呵出一版，重领秦风。

《诗经·秦风·蒹葭》

蒹葭苍苍，白露为霜。所谓伊人，在水一方。溯洄从之，道阻且长。溯游从之，宛在水中央。

蒹葭萋萋，白露未晞。所谓伊人，在水之湄。溯洄从之，道阻且跻。溯游从之，宛在水中坻。

蒹葭采采，白露未已。所谓伊人，在水之涘。溯洄从之，道阻且右。溯游从之，宛在水中沚。

Vast reed bushes no end in sight, 

while grey dewdrops just turning frosty. 

Where is the dream She,

somewhere on the water. 

Going upstream to look for her,

what a treacherous long run. 

Flowing downstream to find her,

as if she were right in the midst of River. 

Luxuriant reed bushes no end in sight, 

while grey dewdrops not yet dry. 

Where is the dream She,

near the river and reeds adjoining edge.

Rowing upstream to look for her,

how treacherous and ascending. 

Floating downstream to find her,

as if she were on a mid-river's highland. 

Exuberant reed bushes no end in sight, 

while grey dewdrops still intact.  

Where is the dream She,

got to be on either riverside. 

Heading upstream to look for her,

it's full of treacherous twists. 

Riding downstream to find her,

as though she were on a mid-river islet.
