我第一次听说“骊靬村”，源于儿时读的香港武侠小说——热血少年独闯西汉塞外名城，试图发掘2,000年前古罗马“力量”第一军团失踪之谜。相传公元前53年，罗马将军克拉苏“坚固”(Crassus)东征帕提亚“安息”(Parthia Empire)，战死卡莱“十字路口”；其长子率第一军团突围，辗转流落至中国骊靬，从此定居繁衍。1984年暑假，我从北京赴新疆考察，途经永昌县者来寨，亲眼见过那些酷似高加索人种的当地人——金发、蓝眼、浅肤、高鼻，难道真是古罗马与匈奴的后裔？近30年过去，这段记忆早已模糊，直到今天娃儿捧着《奥林匹斯英雄》第二部《海神之子》，指着其中一段与炎黄子孙相关的演义向我求证，我才恍惚想起旧日猎奇场景。 《波西·杰克逊》是娃儿极为推崇的奇幻小说。两年间，《神火之盗》《魔兽之海》《巨神之咒》《迷宫之战》《最终之神》五本长篇相继读完；《奥林匹斯英雄》系列《失落的英雄》《海神之子》《雅典娜之印》又叫他百读不厌。书中神话故事融汇古埃及宗教元素、古希腊唯美精神与古罗马政治理念，多元历史背景与现代生活交相辉映，深深打动了他的好奇心。西汉刘向说：“书犹药也，善读之可以医愚”；高尔基则断言书是人类进步的阶梯。书打开精神视窗，启迪智慧，鞭策成长。 幸运的是，娃儿在书海中长大——有格林与安徒生作伴，如今虽受电子游戏挑战，读书习惯却未动摇。作者莱尔顿(Riordan)即将出版《奥林匹斯英雄》第四部《哈迪斯的房子》，让他这个暑假仍保留着对奇幻世界的期待。那个下午，我看见他盘腿坐在地毯上，书的封底朝上，翻了一半，他沉浸在一个与我曾经好奇的骊靬村不同、却一样充满未解之谜的虚构世界里。我想，无论是古罗马军团的失踪之谜，还是混血营的英雄冒险，归根到底，都在满足同一种渴望——通过故事理解那些尚未被命名的联系，如何将过去与现在、他乡与此地连接在一起。在那些被翻旧的纸张中，他正在建立起自己的参照系，一个由想象、历史与疑问交织而成的地图。而我，正以一个旁观者的身份，静静注视着这张地图在他的阅读中逐渐成型，通往那些尚未被言说的远方。那些书页的折痕，也像是阅读者与作者之间的一种无声对谈，在被翻动的过程中，不断被重新解读和改写。而我们或许永远无法完全抵达那些书中的远方，却可以在翻页的间隙，与它们短暂地交会，并在心底留下某种印记。而这一页，只是那张地图上一个微小的起点。  Attempt for Reading (尝试读书 12-27-2003)
