        Cloud's red, earth feeling, sky that thinks?

        From these it takes. Perhaps it gives,

        In the universal intercourse.

            诗是诗集的核心内容，

            从表达立意再到

            深化主题。彼此之间，

            开头与结尾，前后

            实际上存有遗缺，

            事物的原来样子。至少自以为如此。

            两者可否分割开来？难道

            诗有遗缺，从而汲取

            自然质朴的意象，太阳的绿闪，

            云彩的红霞，大地的情感，天空的思想？

            诗从这里滋生。也许还在这里回荡，

            世间万物交相映衬。

【注】神园是20世纪早期费城北郊商业精英所在地，1870—1900年间镀金时代(Gilded Age)古老而优雅的豪宅层出不穷，建筑风格涵盖现代、美洲和荷兰殖民、安妮女王、英式小屋和都铎王朝，譬如：美国企业家猎手(P. A. B. Widener)包括110个房间的新古典复兴式庄园——森林湖畔别墅(Lynnewood Hall, 1897—1900)、冰淇淋巨头绅士故居(H. W. Breyer Sr. House, 1915)、宾州铁路产业大亨避暑山庄(Elstowe Manor, 1898)、地处老野猪路走廊(Old York Road Corridor)并由著名建筑师自由者·灰发·工匠(Frank Lloyd Wright)设计的和平之家犹太教堂(Beth Sholom Synagogue, 1953—1959)、等等。
