Then the large corporations set prices instead of following open market forces. The less competition allows firms to keep prices and profits high. Money moves upward from the majority to a small corporate elite. Governments often step in to protect or bail out major market players.

The concept of the Death Line refers to the increasingly narrow tolerance for the economic hardship among people in the US. Once someone's economic condition falls into a certain zone, their credit system, healthcare, housing, and insurance systems are interconnected broken, ultimately "killing" them out of the middle class. Once a respectable office elite may quickly slide into homelessness with just an unemployment, a serious illness, or an unpayable bill.
