Ancient coins are the most accessible pieces of history for the everyday laymen with modest means. literally get in touch with history. For not very much money, one can hold a coin from the eras of legendary figures of history; where as other antiques could be priced well out of ordinary people’s budget.
I started out in this field when I happened to stop by an ancient coin dealer’s both in a coin and stamp convention and was surprised that a bronze coin of more that 1500 years old could be had for as little as $20. Of course, not all coins are like that but for really minimal money, one can start to appreciate what the ancients can do.
Some highlights of the collection are
A tetradrachm from Athens

A tetradrachm that features the likeness of Alexander the Great
A Silver Denari featuring Mark Anthony and Julius Caesar.
The main theme of my collection is a series of coins featuring portraits of Roman Emperors, although I also have a number of Greek city-state coins and some Chinese cast cash. In the near future, I will feature some of the coins in a series of write ups. |
