下雨天是作詩的日子，不過詩寫成啥樣中國人和英美人格調是不一樣的。比方唐朝李商隱的《宿駱氏亭寄懷崔雍崔袞》詩里的雨景有他一貫的淡淡的悲傷氣息：

竹塢無塵水檻清，

相思迢遞隔重城。 

秋陰不散霜飛晚，

留得枯荷聽雨聲。

清初大才子納蘭性德的《赤棗子·風淅淅》也有類似的愁思味道：

風淅淅，雨纖纖。

難怪春愁細細添。

記不分明疑是夢，

夢來還隔一重簾。

英美人，或出於地理原因（他們是海洋民族，善水，而我們是大陸民族，不善水）或文化原因（基督教有以水洗禮的傳統，水包括雨水就有純潔淨化、清新脫俗之象徵），寫雨的詩風格就不一樣了。像蘇格蘭人Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)的那首叫"Rain"的詩，把雨寫得如此平常，它只是茫茫世界的一部分：

The rain is raining all around,

It falls on field and tree,

It rains on the umbrellas here,

And on the ships at sea.

美國人Langston Hughes (1901-1967)那首"April Rain Song"甚至寫得充滿了對雨的憧憬和熱愛：

Let the rain kiss you

Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops

Let the rain sing you a lullaby

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk

The rain makes running pools in the gutter

The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night

And I love the rain.
