[Abstract] Good sexual health is essential to overall health and well-being, yet many young adults struggle to achieve it. While the inability to communicate openly is a commonly cited barrier, research is lacking on partner communications and relationships among young adults. Using a mixed-methods approach, including an online survey with 900 young adults and 16 focus groups with 79 young adults, we sought to determine how best to motivate and equip young adults to engage in open sexual health conversations. Results indicate that building communication skills and changing attitudes about sexual health conversations should be the primary focus of messaging and education. Also, we must meet young adults where they are – mainly online – while offering practical advice, scripts, and role modeling of conversations.
