| 儿子报普通大学作文1----你为什么要选择进入这个专业学习 | 2010-12-14 13:38:07 | | My family came from China. As new immigrants, they were busy with work and building a stable life. I spent most of my time playing computer games because elementary school was easy and homework only took me a few minutes to finish. Soon after, I concluded that it took too much effort to play through each game stage, so I decided to take some “shortcuts”. Instead of leveling up, I spent most of my time learning how to hack the game, circumvent rules, and modify programming code. I always beat my friends at online games because of my talent in gaining unfair advantages. As I grew older, games no longer interested me, but computers sure did.I built and secured my own, even remapping the keyboard layout to make sure nobody could break in. While I learned how to protect my computer I also learned to easily access other computers. For instance, I helped a friend's grandma retrieve a computer password after her deceased husband locked the machine. I also helped classmates access the school's restricted wireless network with their portable devices. I even fixed a client's computer virus problem from miles away via remote administration. Through these experiences, I realized the vital importance of cyber security in the 21st century world, especially with many people doing online banking and shopping. I could easily take my computer to Starbucks, target people on their laptop across the room, and obtain their personal information via a Man-in-the-middle attack. If even a teenager like me could do it, how much more could a professionally trained attacker do? With my talent, interest, and integrity, I have decided to pursue a career in computer technology. I want to make great contributions pertaining to networking, information systems and cyber security to our society in future. | 儿子报普通大学作文2-----分享你的一个人生经验和对你未来的帮助 | 2010-12-14 13:49:45 | | Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person you are? Throughout our lives, we will meet many people. When we encounter someone, we should not condemn that person according to his/her initial behavior because there is always a reason behind it. Good communication, understanding, respect, and a little help may change a person's future. I learned this through a missions trip to China. In my freshman year of high school, I was invited to be a teaching assistant and a translator at a summer program that taught Chinese students English in southern China. Teaching is a fun but demanding job. Yet long hours preparing lesson material, grading homework, attending various staff meetings, and getting few hours of sleep were the least of my worries. The most difficult task I faced was counseling a particular eight-year-old named Peter. He exhibited fighting, excessive vulgar language, rebellion, and many other things best left undiscussed. Every teacher gave up on Peter, deeming him "unmanageable". Since Peter had no friends, they passed him on to me for companionship and counseling. Despite the stress of my other responsibilities, I was committed to fulfilling my duty, going through difficult weeks chatting, mentoring, and spending time with Peter. However, underneath my veneer of diligence and encouragement, I still viewed Peter with contempt. It was not until the day I gave Peter my complete love and patience that a miracle happened. When I spent my afternoon free time to teach him American football, something changed as Peter caught his first 40-yard pass and scored a "touchdown", skipping around the field with delight. He soon opened up, improved his behavior, and began making friends thereafter. Later on, I was told that Peter had an abusive father and high levels of lead in his blood, which would explain his impulsive, aggressive, antisocial behavior. When I told Peter's story to my mom, she said that there is always a reason for people's actions. She showed me the importance of treating everyone with compassion by telling me a real story. One day, her teacher was riding on a 6am train to New York City. Next to her sat a father and his five-year-old son. Even though the son was crying, climbing around, and disturbing the other sleepy passengers, the father just idly sat there. My mom's teacher, annoyed, asked the father to quiet his son. The father replied, "His mother died in the hospital two hours ago...". Since then, the experience altered the teacher's self-centered attitude forever. Like many other iGeneration youth, I was a bit egocentric too, and tended to avoid those below my own "standard". It takes good communication, patience, and humility to understand another. These lessons have been extremely valuable... I am proud to have learned... Looking at a college life in the near future, I expect to walk on campus and meet many people of different backgrounds, cultures, and statuses. I cannot use my own standards to judge those like Peter or the boy on the train, simply labeling them "cool" or "weird". Instead, I now treat everyone with respect and empathy regardless of how odd they may appear to be. You never know how or when, but just a little kindness may completely change someone's life. | 儿子报普通大学作文3-------说你一份工作经验,为什喜欢或不喜欢 | 2010-12-14 13:55:28 | | I currently work as a part time waiter at an upscale retirement community center. Like many others, I have the responsibility of paying for gas in order to enjoy my driver's license and freedom. After a long day of using my brain at school, I wanted to exercise my hands-on ability. Thus, I chose blue collar labor by finding await-staff position last summer. Asa young man with lots of energy, physical labor did not seem difficult. I thought it would be low-stress, straightforward, quick cash. The simple routine of clocking in and out, taking orders, serving meals, resetting tables, and cleaning the kitchen, should not be too challenging. After 6 months with this job, I have learned how to communicate with my boss and coworkers and complete tasks efficiently. This working experience also trained me how to multi task and manage time effectively. Even though my feet hurt every night after work, I continued with this job because of the insights I have gained, not just to pay for gas and a few fast food meals now and then. Working a blue collar job has provided me cash, sharpened my skills, and more importantly, taught me the true meaning of opportunity cost, reinforcing my desire for higher education. My hourly wage is barely enough to pay for a nice car, insurance, vehicle maintenance; it goes without saying a house or a quality life with my future family. I am convinced that in order to be better off in the world, I need to pursue a good college to obtain more advanced skills suited for high-paying careers. By being a white collar or even gold-collar worker, I can better utilize my intelligence and talents for the good of society. |
