對嬰兒手語的認識，是偶爾翻一本雜誌接觸到的。有了這個概念後，就注意到附近有以這為主題的playgroup。Mommy和Baby一起，邊唱邊玩，做着簡單的手勢，其樂融融。爾後發現圖書館也有這樣的書。更得意的是姐姐在說話之前，媽媽無意間已教她會了一些手語，只不過自己渾然不覺。

嬰兒從一張白紙到開始理解並有意識地表達某種東西時，對父母來說是一種欣喜與興奮。象Baby剛學會揮手道再見，點頭表肯定，搖頭/搖手示不要，這些都會給家人帶來驚喜。記得弟弟七八個月大時去打預防針，出來時護士給一張sticker以表安慰，儘管弟弟眼裡含着淚花，但過了幾秒，弟弟很堅定地擺了擺手，以示不要，讓護士驚訝不已，媽媽眼裡當然也是小小的驕傲。

學嬰兒手語的目的是增進嬰兒與周圍的交流。不可小看Baby的潛能，不斷的重複，就可看到進步。當Baby開始指東西並啊啊不停時，大概八到十個月大，就可以開始啦。從簡單的事物開始，結合書本，遊戲，兒歌，逐漸引入新的手語，至最後過渡到語言，這期間與孩子的交流應該會更輕鬆。

嬰兒手語（Baby Sign）摘錄：

Object Signs

1.Hat—Pat the top of your hand with your hand open and your palm down

2.Bird—Flap one or both arms out to the side like a bird’s wing

3.Flower—make a sniffing gesture with a wrinkled nose as if smelling a flower

4.Fish—Open and close your lips, smacking like a fish does

5.Airplane—Arms out stiffly or hand swooping

6.Book—Holding hands flat with palms up, opening and closing

7.Bunny—Holding two fingers up in a V

8.Butterfly—Hands together, fingers waving

9.Car—Steering motion

11.Elephant—Finger or back of hand to nose moving up and down

12.Moon—hand high, palm up, circling motion
