In 1979, Canada accepted 50,000 refugees from Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos together). In 2016 Canada accepted 34,925 refugees from Syria. The population of Syria is 18 million, about 1/5 of the population of Vietnam. By the rate of refugees/population, Syria is the highest country source of refugees accepted by Canada! Do you think that refugees can make the same contributions as the immigrants meeting high standards (education, skills, age, language, etc.)? |
