(Sorry, can't type Chinese now.)
The net is excited about Obama's comment that US “would further expand its youth exchanges with China by dramatically expanding the number of students studying in China to 100,000.”
Well, hold on for a second. What to be excited about? Is it because that there would be foreign students study in China? Or is it because the number is increased to 100k?
China is not lacking of foreign students, but lack of quality foreign students. (Yeh, we have princes and princeses from African countries.) The question is if US would ever have her best students going to China and study there.
Most of us came here were from the top schools in China, we may not all went to the best schools in US, but it represents the higher education’s quality differences between the two countries.
If Chinese Universities were the best in the world, they would attract best people all over the world automatically.
Are we there yet? I don’t think so, and I don’t believe they will be there in the next four years. There’s no foundation there and there’s not enough time there for that kind of achievement.
If there were 100K community college students from US going to China for couple years, is it something to be excited about?
