I was probably one of the last several people in this country who bought GPS only during recent years. There was a reason though. I never needed a GPS in the past when Amy was at the front passenger seat. She was such a live map since she was about 6 or 7, or as far back as I can remember. She used to tell me where to go and how to get there much like what a GPS does. Those days, there was no GPS in market. I often printed some maps from yahoo map (before Google map was available). She enjoyed making trip plans. We were a good father-daughter team during any type of traveling. I was often amazed by how this little person could read so fast, and remembered so much, particularly with such a boring project. It never seemed to be any work to her, it was her self-made challenge which she felt achieving something. She often guided me like this when we drove, whether it was to Mexico border, Salt Lake City-Los Vegas, or along the east coast during her pre-college education tour.
After she left for college, I did not feel the immediate impact until one day I was driving toward an outskirt site for a thanks-giving dinner. I missed the site and used a lot of extra time. At that moment, I felt her absence and decided to install GPS. These days I thought of her when I saw my GPS.
