It is a great day, a spectacular day, a magical day, an incredible day! Just look at the facts below: 1. Today, for the first time in my 20 year residential history in this 4 million people city, I saw a freight train parked right at a rail crossing in our central city area slightly after the evening rush hour. The parking is at least 1 hour. 2. Today, for the first time in my 20 year history in this city, I saw a passenger train passing this cross section, while I was blocked by this parked freight train. It was a 4-car passenger train, beautiful. Most people around me here never saw a passenger train here locally. The freight train parked there for at least additional 30 minutes after the passenger train went by. I believe there was no association between the passenger train passing-by and the freight training parking, two independent events. 3. With so much waiting to cross this rail, the parked train never moved; many (including me) wanted to go back through a U turn right in front of me. However, a disabled truck blocked the U turn. We spent several minutes to move the disabled truck just to make enough room for people to use the U turn. Then I drove 3-4 extra miles to get into my regular route. What is the chance for me to see a parked freight train at this place? Once every 20 years; What is the chance for me to see a passenger train? Once every 20 years; What is the chance for a disabled truck to block a U turn that you actually need to use? Once every 20 years. It is very hard for me to understand how such a remote probability happened today by my witness. I only work overtime a couple of weeks per year. Today I worked 12 hrs, and 1 extra hour on road for this rare combination of events. It is a great day, a spectacular day, a magical day, an incredible day! |
