Maurice Jarre (1924–2009) was a renowned French composer and conductor best known for his memorable film scores. Born in Lyon, France, he became one of the most influential film composers of the 20th century. Jarre gained international recognition for his music for Lawrence of Arabia (1962), which earned him his first Academy Award for Best Original Score. He later won two more Oscars for Doctor Zhivago (1965) and A Passage to India (1984). His other notable works include The Message (1976) and Dead Poets Society (1989).
