小楼昨夜又东风，故国不堪回首月明中。

When had spring flowers and autumn moons ended?

Can anything from the past still be remembered? 

Last night east wind was again blowing by the little chamber I dwell,

Too painful under the bright moon to think back of my perished dynasty.  

All the artistic balustrades and jadery palaces should still be there,

with only those in red makeup now bearing new faces. 

How much angst and sorrow is in my heart?

As much as a river of spring water running eastwards with no end.
