Country has been torn apart although mountains and rivers still there,

This spring has seen weeds growing rampant in the city everywhere. 

Sorrow has overwhelmed flowers to sputter tears, 

while outcry and grief have appalled even birds. 

War has been raging on for three consecutive months, 

a letter from home is ten grands of gold as precious.  

The more this hoary head is scratched the more grey hairs fall,

hairs are getting so scarce that hairpin utterly works no more.
