Lecture and  literature

After Cultural Revolution that almost extinguished all sources and  known talents of the nation for literature,  a wave of flourishing  literature works appeared out before us .  the fresh force for change were those who had been  sent to big grass fields or high mountains to work for years.  In the big school of real life,  they had learned about life, thinking and  writing.   They were urgent to tell people what they had experienced and learned with all kind of missions they put on their shoulders.

Therefore,  we have seen that their works have carried  too much moral weight of  advisory remarks and philosophical thinking.  More often than not,  those works are more like a life lecture than a literary tales, or at least both.   They tell you what you should think , rather than to let you think by yourselves.  If we compare some of those works with  Border town by Shen Congwen which is elegant , sad but beautiful, without eschewing any didacticism, not even a little.  Then it is clear.

However,  Chinese literature always has its tradition of writing for carrying doctrine.  Particularly in this special  period, they might want to strongly and explicitly present the connotations of their works that  they believe it is quintessential .
