【原文】
道可道，非常道。
名可名，非常名。
無名天地之始；有名萬物之母。
故常無欲，以觀其妙；常有欲，以觀其徼。
此兩者同出而異名，同謂之玄。
玄之又玄，眾妙之門。
【散文譯】
天下有很多的事業與方法，治國經商，科學藝術，
修身齊家，醫術兵法，乃至師道孝道。
然而事過境遷，什麼才是那永恆的大道？
宇宙有無數的事物與名稱，星辰雷雨，山川花樹，
飛禽走獸，原子分子，乃至文字思維，
然而滄海桑田，什麼才是那不滅的永存？
天地之始，人尚未存，哪裡來的萬物的名稱？
始起演化，人所由生，難道不是萬物的母親？
心靜如水，意合太清，你可以感知萬物的奧妙；
養身樂生，淡欲不盈，你可以體驗萬物的功效。
無欲有欲，同樣的原由，不同的玄妙。
這兩種玄妙里卻有更深的奧妙，
懂得了它，你將進入眾妙之門，與宇宙擁抱！
【英譯】
Expressible ways have been expressed,
But not yet the Eternal Way;
Nameable things have been named,
But not yet the Eternal Thing.
As the origin of heaven and earth, it is nameless;
As the Mother of all things, it is so named.
Being desireless, you can perceive its essences;
Being desirous, you can feel its manifestations.
Having emerged from the same source,
These two are expressed differently,
And both are regarded as mysteries.
The deeper mystery of the mysteries is the gate to all wonders.
