A Leaf in the Wind Whatever happens to the leaf blown far, far away Separated from its caring tree, separated from its guardian earth As the wind picked up, the branches swayed And so the leaf blew in the wind’s emotionless mirth It traveled far and wide, homeless and alone Seeing the world, yet never to know What splendors lie below it, and the wonders behind As it blew away from its home, that it would never find The wind stopped, and it settled down to rest, underneath The shade of a majestic tree, awesome and royal It considered itself safe, with the familiar earth underfeet It felt it had found a home, protected and invincible Then the machines game, cruel and cold Methodically destroying, ignoring the path And the barrier toppled, the majesty killed The leaf left all alone, vulnerable and weak The sun began shining, upon the ruins it lit A macabre scene of death and destruction The soulless had come and done what they had seen fit And ignored the poor little leaf, crumpled and alone. 6/15/2009 |
