From Plato to Bernie and AOC – A Brief History of Communism
Twenty-four centuries, one idea. It always starts the same way and always ends the same way.
从柏拉图到伯尼·桑德斯与AOC （联邦众议员）- 一部共产主义简史
二十四个世纪，同一个理念。它的开端总是如出一辙，结局也总是殊途
同归。
1. 柏拉图，公元前380年。世界构造拙劣，智者应将其重塑；统治者为了
民众的福祉可以向其撒谎——他称之为“高尚的谎言”。在“卫士”阶层
中废除私有财产，同时也废除了家庭。此后的一切都是这一理念的变体，
只是文笔愈发拙劣，死亡人数也愈发惊人。
2. 千禧年主义教派。废除私有财产，由“选民”掌权，要求进行净化—
—这一切发生在资本主义诞生前的一千年。这一理念的出现无需特定的
经济基础。
3. 卢梭，1762年。人本性善良，是制度腐蚀了人，因此必须重塑制度。
“公意”（General Will）——即人民的集体意愿；正确的领导者能够
识别并实施这一意愿，而不必理会个体实际上想要什么。这是后来每一
场以“解放人民”为名行杀戮之实的革命的哲学基石。凡拒绝服从者，
将被迫获得自由。卢梭本人将他的五个孩子全部遗弃在孤儿院，却洋洋
洒洒地论述如何正确养育儿童。这是一种典型的模式。
4. 康德与黑格尔。康德将我们眼中的世界与世界的本来面目区分开来。
黑格尔则补充道，历史是有其走向的。两人共同贡献了一个终结一切争论
的短语：“站在历史错误的一边”。
5. 1789年，法国大革命。这一理念拥有了自己的国家。美德是其目标，
而美德最终被证明需要强制推行。从“解放”到断头台与“恐怖统治”，
仅用了四年时间。
6. 马克思，1848年。披着科学外衣的同一理念——此时，你不再是为之
辩护，而是在解读未来。这一理论的撰写者从未在工厂工作过，而资助者
却拥有一家工厂。
7. 列宁，1917年。先锋队政党：由少数职业革命家组成，他们比工人自己
更清楚工人需要什么。他乘坐密封列车被送往俄国，幕后推手是一位希望
俄国退出战争的德国将军。他如愿以偿，甚至得到了更多。
8. 斯大林、毛泽东、波尔布特。当它得势时，景象是这样的：政府即
恐怖，谎言编织得如此天衣无缝，以至于人们丧失了分辨“内心真实
想法”与“必须宣之于口的话语”之间差异的能力。中国有数千万人丧生，
柬埔寨损失了四分之一的人口。这并非偶然的偏差，而是基于同一前提、
被狂热推行的结果。集体化、古拉格、大跃进、杀戮场——一个世纪内约
有一亿人丧生。每一次灾难降临前，总有知识分子振振有词地解释为何
“这一次会不同”。
9. 法兰克福学派。西方的工人阶级拒绝起义，于是解释变了：问题出在
文化上，西方文明本身就是压迫者，必须对其进行解构。一切都要批判，
却无需建设。
10. 葛兰西、斯皮内利、杜奇克与1968年。不要去冲击议会——去编辑部
谋个职位吧。西方的权力建立在“共识”之上，而共识是在学校和报纸中
形成的——所以，去占领这些阵地吧。这就是“穿越体制的长征”。那
一代在街头抗争失败的人，后来成了教授、编辑和法官。这招奏效了，
正因如此，如今的选举虽能更迭政府，却无法改变国家的发展方向。
1989年——体制崩溃，档案解密，然而西方大学里几乎没人改变立场。
这是一种信仰，而非理论。
11. 82岁伯尼·桑德斯（Bernie）与 36岁AOC。同样的理念，换了副新
面孔，且已无人读过原始文献。一切免费，由亿万富翁买单。1988年 —
—即苏联解体前三年——去苏联度蜜月，归来后赞不绝口。坐拥三处房产，
身家数百万美元,自称“民主社会主义者”。其逻辑源自柏拉图，其风格
却属于 TikTok。

接下来的事
12. 谎言并非副作用，它就是体制本身。
13. 当真理是“被给予”而非“被探寻”时，任何坚持探寻真理的人都会
成为障碍。
14. 它之所以能存续，是因为它维护的是既得职位，而非某种信念。一旦
追问“谁最胜任这份工作”，每一个受保护的职位便岌岌可危；一旦追问
“谁有资格进入这个圈子”，结果往往是同一批人终身占据着位置。
15. 管理阶层即“诺门克拉图拉”（nomenklatura，特权官僚阶层）。
同样的选拔机制，同样的剧本，同样不受实际结果的问责。改变的仅仅是
信头上的名称。
16. 当事事都需要许可时，许可便成了通货——谁掌握了这套运作机制的
规则，谁就能赢得选举。
17. 沉默并非出于无知，而是源于一种权衡：发言代价高昂，沉默则无需
成本。
18. 其底层运作靠两种燃料驱动：嫉妒与恐惧。嫉妒提供了动机——别人
拥有你所没有的东西，而体制承诺将其夺取；恐惧则确保了顺从——人人
都目睹了那些说错话的人会有何下场。这两者都与正义无关，也从未真正
创造过任何事物。
19. 这一理念永远无法从中吸取教训，因为问题并不出在执行层面，而在于
其前提本身：即认为“智者”能比普通大众自己更好地规划大众的生活。
20. 答案并非制定一套更完善的社会规划，而是拒绝让任何人掌握那支规划
之笔。
现实不容商量。大声说出这一点，创造行之有效的事物，并将它们传给你
的孩子。
说真话。有勇气。去创造。

Twenty-four centuries, one idea. It always starts the same way and always ends the same way.
1. Plato, 380 BC. The world is badly made, the wise should redesign it, and the rulers may lie to the people for their own good – he called it the noble lie. Property abolished among the guardians, the family abolished with it. Everything since is a version of it, with progressively worse writing and progressively higher body counts.
2. The millenarian sects. Property abolished, the chosen in charge, purification required – a thousand years before capitalism existed. The idea needs no economy to appear.
3. Rousseau, 1762. Man is good, institutions corrupt him, so institutions must be remade. The General Will – the collective desire of the people, which the correct leader can identify and implement regardless of what individual people actually want. The philosophical foundation of every subsequent revolution that murdered people in the name of their own liberation. Whoever refuses to obey shall be forced to be free. Rousseau personally abandoned all five of his children to the orphanage. He wrote extensively about the correct upbringing of children. This is a pattern.
4. Kant and Hegel. Kant splits the world as we see it from the world as it is. Hegel adds that history is going somewhere. Together they supply the phrase that ends every argument: the wrong side of history.
5. 1789, French Revolution. The idea gets a country. Virtue is the goal, and virtue turns out to need enforcement. Four years from liberation to the guillotine and the Terror.
6. Marx, 1848. The same idea in a scientific costume – now you weren’t arguing for it, you were reading the future. Written by a man who had never worked in a factory, funded by a man who owned one.
7. Lenin, 1917. The vanguard party: a small group of professionals who know what the workers need better than the workers do. Delivered to Russia in a sealed train by a German general who wanted Russia out of the war. He got that, and more.
8. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot. What it looks like when it wins. Terror as government, and a lie so complete that people lost the ability to tell what they thought from what they had to say. Tens of millions dead in China, a quarter of the population in Cambodia. Not a deviation. The same premise, applied with enthusiasm. Collectivization, the gulag, the Great Leap, the killing fields – roughly a hundred million dead in one century. Each time preceded by intellectuals explaining why this time would be different.
9. The Frankfurt School. The workers in the West refused to revolt, so the explanation changed: the problem is cultural, and Western civilization itself is the oppressor and has to be deconstructed. Everything to be criticized, nothing to be built.
10. Gramsci, Spinelli, Dutschke and 1968. Don’t storm the parliament – get a job in the editorial office. Power in the West rests on consent, and consent is made in schools and newspapers – so take those instead. The long march through the institutions. The generation that failed in the streets became the professors, editors and judges. It worked, which is why elections now change the government but not the direction.
1989 – the system collapses, the archives opened, and in the Western universities almost nobody changed their mind. A faith, not a theory.
11. Bernie and AOC. Same idea, new clothes, and nobody left who has read the source material. Free everything, paid for by the billionaires. Honeymooned in the Soviet Union in 1988 – three years before it collapsed – and came back impressed. Three houses. Net worth in the millions of dollars. Democratic socialists. The reasoning is Plato’s, the aesthetic is TikTok.

12. The lie is not a side effect. It is the system.
13. Where truth is handed out instead of found, anyone who insists on finding it is in the way.
14. It survives because it protects positions, not beliefs. Ask who is best for the job and every protected position is at risk. Ask who belongs in the room and the same people stay in it for life.
15. The managerial class is the nomenklatura. Same selection, same script, same immunity to results. Only the letterhead changed.
16. Where everything needs permission, permission becomes the currency – and whoever knows the apparatus rules, whoever wins the election.
17. Silence is not ignorance. It is knowledge plus a calculation: speaking costs everything, silence is free.
18. Underneath, it runs on two fuels: envy and fear. Envy supplies the motive – someone else has what you don’t, and the system promises to take it. Fear supplies the compliance – everyone can see what happens to those who say the wrong thing. Neither has anything to do with justice, and neither ever built anything.
19. The idea never learns, because the error is not in the implementation. It is in the premise: that the "wise" can plan the lives of the many better than the many can plan their own.
20. The answer is not a better plan for society. It is refusing to let anyone hold the pen.
Reality is not negotiable. Say so out loud, build things that work, and hand them to your children.
Tell the truth. Have courage. And build.
