A Rhyme at the Seashore I come to the seashore To seek the long-lost dream of my childhood, To seek the fervor and beauty of life. Oh, it has been so long, Great Ocean! Last night in a dream I heard your summons, Thereupon I stepped to your side in the starlight. Yet you must know That I anxiously seek you, I am not seeking death, Although I know clearly, That the iron law abided by the great emperors of the Qin and Han Will show mercy to no one. When the first rays of morning Spread their golden light upon my pale soul, From then on I will never again treasure the dreary starlight in the dawn, As they can only give me distant comfort and endless sorrow. Now that I finally come to your side, Like a lovers’ reunion after a long separation--- Now I can hold you tightly to my heart--- I want to feel your powerful roar of strength, I want to savor your tenderness of love I want to seize your elements of freedom--- Let your blood pour into my heart, Let your winds blow through my long hair Let your reef fortify my unyielding backbone. Oh, Great Ocean! I have called to you ten thousand times in my dreams, but could never see you, Now you have suddenly rushed into the lines of my poem.
