I will never forget the New Year’s Eve 25 years ago. That night, I, a university student, spent the holiday with my classmates. We had a fantastic night, in which we sang, danced, played balloons, and had dinner together. But what impressed me the most was that on that night I fell in love!
At the New Year’s Eve party, I was engrossed by a wonderful scene. Unlike other schoolboys who were playing, a young gentleman was teaching some of the schoolgirls to make dumplings. He kneaded the dough, divided it into small round pieces and wrapped the stuffing to be the beautiful dumplings. He explained the procedure in a mild voice, but his action was very skillful. These schoolgirls were trying to follow his instructions but coping with the dough and stuffing awkwardly. Perhaps feeling I was watching him, he raised his head and winked mischievously at me. I got embarrassed.
He was the classmate who sat behind me every class and I could feel his eyes watching me. Whenever our eyes met, he smiled at me and his eyes elicited a desire which I couldn’t describe. To my surprise, he asked me to cook the dumplings with him. We talked happily in front of the oven. I didn’t know why we had so many topics to talk about. When the dumplings cooked, he asked me to taste the first one. I could not believe that he put a dumpling in my mouth directly!
While the classmates were playing madly, he invited me to go out for a walk with him. The night was a little bit cool and the moonlight poured down quietly. Under the bright moon, we walked along the Nameless Lake. We talked slowly, softly and shyly. When our hands touched each other without expectation, both of us trembled. With a little bit hesitation, our two hands joined together. He told me with zeal, “I love you. I will love you forever.” His words went into my heart. I trusted that he could keep his promise. He was the right man I dreamed about. He was handsome, amiable, smart, hardworking and gentle, and the most important thing was that he loved me! At that moment, I believed that I was the happiest girl in the world.
That night, we welcomed the New Year together and we welcomed our new life together. On that night, I became his first girlfriend, and until now I am still his first one. He became my husband 20 years ago. He still makes dumplings for me and for our daughter. We have been holding hands together for 25 years since that night. I will never forget that night, in which I fell in love.
