hermia, i just returned and read your comments. thanks a lot! nothing personal here and not tooo far away neither but i enjoyed your essays on touring in europe,,,
OK, I think I was merely commenting on your blog, did not go too away from it, you went way beyond as usual. Maybe that’s why your “天书”s(not a neg) are truly worth reading. However, According to Ondaatjie, combine may not be relevant. The real question is this: have human and human, human and events ever left each other, if not, how did they connect? Ondaatjie has a bizarre way of defining bonding – you were right, it had to do with his parents divorced since early ages, and he was raised by a huge international family (a job well done too) before going to Canada. Healing is not necessarily central, but implied. In someway, his method is disturbing, but in other circumstances, it is perfectly reasonable and deeply moving. The book rather shows us some of these realms. The light it sheds on PTSD, in my mind, apart from what I said in earlier comment, is while the experiences can not be dismissed, the realm shifting CAN be appropriate and effective. But didn’t I feel it in your literature framework? Maybe I am wrong, I have to admit I confused now. But that’s all what an artist can do, the parents, psychologists and everyone else that cares have to put their hands into the real mess. I can not start to express how much I admire and respect them. Thanks!
Hermia, psychologists often limit their vision on artists'work but try to shed some light on a piece of bread or a bowl of vegetables; while artists like to externalize the hearts of psychologists, making them bloody, for example…. Ok, whatever both psychologists and artists have said about or represented the mind of a child, abused or not, the picture of healing, though cool, is never clear. They never combine.
Not try to interpret a master piece but just feel it; some time it's difficult to understand. Just like that I would say something about a type of flowers, I had a hard time to understand but should not have misunderstood….It’s definitely good to share! But you are difficult to understand. Mz
Creativity and depression can both be the results of PTSD. However, Divisedero talks about healing in a much more general way. All characters in there, major or minor, heal and heal in their own ways, whether there were PTSD or not and that healing power comes from real human connections more than anything else - that's how I understand it. A good art work is almost always subject to over interpretation and misinterpretation, and as difficult as any work in psychology, I hope a good reader or psychologist would not make a decision too fast. I hope they would check out all circumstances very carefully before reaching a diagnosis. Over-prescription of ADHD, for example, is quite common in the US and was used as excuses to avoid responsibilities and not to face the normal challenges in life. Just made that mistake myself, thought I would share that with you. I am not trying to underestimate the very good work you are doing over there. please do not misunderstand me.
