Maked or made: When to break rules?
Long ago, the past tense of make was maked. That was consistent with the rule. But maked is awkward to pronounce. Over time, maked turned into made, which is easier to pronounce. Why didn't baked turn into bade? Bake is less often used than make. There is not enough benefit to break the rule to turn baked into bade.
