Number of countries over time Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the number of countries in the world has been increasing steadily. In 1900, there were about 75 countries. Today there are 195 countries. It is always better for local people to govern themselves. People will focus more on production over distribution in a small society. Smaller a society, less politics. Wish Albertans the best in their struggle for independence.
