言者无心: 让人捧腹的英语报纸标题

下面的报刊头条标题一眼看眉头就皱了。编辑先生疯了吗？

其实我们都知道标题的本意，可是不慎的编辑，却导致这些“言者无心，听者有意”的搞笑。

如果您也觉得这些标题很怪，那就证明您的英语水平显然已经过关了。

TWO SOVIET SHIPS COLLIDE，ONE DIES

解释：您看看，第一个标题的意思究竟是

(1) people are complaining because the women are growing ugly?

(2) people are complaining because the women are nude and growing ugly?

还是

(3) people's complaints are getting nasty (ugly) about women who swim in the nude" 呢？

到底这些 “complaints” 指的是什么东西呢？

正确的答案是 (3)。

What is the big deal?

1.Lack of brains hinder research.

Not enough people with expertize will make it difficult to carry out research.

2.Kids make nutritious snacks

Children (in an activitity) make snacks that are nutritious.........not " snacks using kids as an ingredient so as to become nutritious"

3.Milk drinkers are turning to powder

People who drink milk have decided to drink milk made by mixing powder with water.....not " milk drinkers have been pulverized into powder"

4.Drunks get nine months in violin case

A drunk driver is sentenced to nine months in jail in a case involving violin .....not " a drunk driver is put inside a violin case"

5.Miners refuse to work after death

After a mine accident causing somebody's death, the miners refuse to work...not " miners not wanting to work after they die"

6. QE 2 having bottom scraped

The luxury ocean liner QE 2 's ship bottom was scraped by ocean floor.......not " Queen of England getting her ass scraped by her her attendant or somebody"

7. Two soviet ships collide, one dies

Two ships collide, one person die. One of the ship didn't die.

老木好！
好一段时间没看到木爷的笑话，心里有点失落的，因此自己来填补你留下的空间。当然两分钱的笑话是绝不能和老木的攀比的！

没啥问题呀。。。挺有道理的吗。If a woman grows, she will become older, and older, and if she still does nude swimming, of course that would be pretty ugly. I had seen that at the Wreck Beach off UBC campus. Although, "KIDS MAKE NUTRITIOUS SNACKS", that is pretty scary!
