聖經里的希尼在哪裡？

《舊約·以賽亞書》欽定英譯本（Authorized Version）原文如下：

Isaiah 49:12 - 

“Behold, these shall come from afar–and, behold, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Sinim (China).”

1970年出版的新英語本（The New English Bible 1970）是以上欽定本的修訂本，其中的地名“Sinim”改成了“Syene”。

Isaiah 49:12 - 

“Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Syene.”

注意，在1919年的漢譯蝴蝶本里，“the land of Syene”被翻譯成了“秦國”。而在西方，學界有的人認為，“Syene”是埃及的西奈半島。

聯合聖公會（United Bible Societies）的英譯本《聖經》(Holy Bible)里的這一節原文如下：

Isaiah 49:12 -

“My people will come from far away, from the north and the west, and from Aswan in the south.”

但在聯合聖公會這版的漢譯本里，地名“Aswan”則不被採用，而是仍舊按照“Sinim”的發音來翻譯，作“希尼”：“我的子民會從遠方來，從西，從北，又從南方的希尼來。”

很顯然，漢譯本的作者是個有學問的音韻學專家。

上古漢語的“西”，音/san/，西膜讀作/san ma/，這正是希伯來語和英語裡“Sinim”的來源。西膜，其地不在埃及，而在遙遠的東方的崑崙之地。也就是今天中國的新疆天池一帶。

您可能要問，為什麼說西膜就是今天中國的新疆天池一帶呢？這個是音韻學的一大課題，說來話長，且聽下回分解。

順帶說一句，猶太人有一個很常見的姓氏，Simon。其實就是“西膜”的意思。所以，西蒙這個氏族最初的居住地也在天池一帶。
