Congratulations to Margaret Zeng, our very own IT, Senior Developer, who won first prize this past summer in the 2011 Chinese National Prose Writer Forum Competition. This competition, sponsored by the Chinese Prose Academic Society, the Prose Writer Center and the China International Cultural Exchange Center, chose her prose “Mulberry of the Horizon” for this prize, which is quite an honor. Margaret had just come back to the U.S. after visiting family in China when she heard she had won first prize. She made the 19 hour flight to China again to accept her prize. Margaret was also invited to give a speech at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, a famous place where the Chinese senior leaders meet with foreign leaders and guests. Margaret has already written a short novel, Reconnection, which was translated into English and published by a Canadian publisher. She even has a second short novel that has the possibility of being turned into a short English movie in Hollywood! She got an early start in her writing. In elementary school, Margaret was publishing essays, and in university in China, was publishing poems and essays. After she moved to the U.S., she was publishing her stories and essays in major overseas Chinese newspapers. Margaret has a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Beijing University and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Chinese Literature and Linguistics. She was a teacher prior to coming to the U.S. As Margaret gave her speech in China and the famous state guesthouse, she didn’t forget her fellow coworkers saying… Hi guys, this is Minglu. Greetings from China! Margaret, Wowwww I’m so so impressed about you on the spotlight!! Wow I cant believe this whole time I have spoken to someone that Important.. I’m so flattered Congratulations you’re OWESOME Next time I see you I will need an Autograph for sure… 我说:My autograph is awful though 她回说:You’re so cute, even if you say your autograph is awful I’m so sure is very valuable as same as you.
