Back to the states again for the holiday? It's always good to see you here, especially when you share with us your interest and knowledge about music.
I have to admit that I haven't heard much of the other masters' performance - other than the more "popular ones" - I did say that I'm just a beginner:). But I agree with Sikao, that one's personality really affects one's success in life, whether you are talking about music achievement, or other things. The difference between Lang Lang and Li Yundi can't be more obvious.
Oh! Milstein, a true master! The publicity difference between him and Heifetz tells you how important the personality affect people's success regradless of his/her personal excellence. It reminds me a comtempory pair, 李云迪and朗朗。
Thank you very much for sharing the thoughts. There is nothing wrong with being a visiual person and enjoying the music at the same time. I am a visiual person and I am really into music. People are judging others with themself as the reference point. This is not right. I have seen too much of these around here.
Thank you for offering a space to write down some of my opinions.
Thanks Sikao!! The sound quality of recordings is definitely better than the ones in these video recordings, but it's hard to post the audios on the site, plus I'm a visual person (I know, I know, it's kind of ironic to admit that when you are talking about music), so I always enjoy "watching" the actual performance of these pieces.
I just added Heifetz's recording of "Zigeunerweiser" to an old piece I wrote about this. It now has Sarah Chang's version and Heifetz's version. Enjoy!
Most of the Heifetz RCA Violin concertos recording has been released since 2004 based on DSD mastering technology with SACD as a media. The sound quality belongs to the best audio quality you can find these days. I just quote the followings for your reference:
Lucky you!!! I "acquired" my taste and interest in classic music from my hubby too (of course he's not a professional - a quarter professional to the best), but I'm just a beginner. I always wanted to learn piano, but never had the devotion and time - maybe after retiring!!! Thanks for sharing the Z piece - I posted recordings of this product before, but it's by Sarah Chang.
I agree with Haochi - the recording techniques back then are not that good, so the performance we see today by these masters is not nearly as good as they should be.
昭君姐,yes I saw your reply & replied back. heehee. YiPing said my taste is very American Mainstream - she nailed it. Anything on Top 100 chart. haha. Heifez is because of my husband - his 2 cousins are both professional violinists, Curtis & Julliard graduates. One of them is the first chair in a National Symphony Orchestra. My husband is not nearly as good, but he taught me how to play piano & to hear how Heifez' violin would "cry", but others' won't... Zigeunerweisen by Heifez is one of my favorites, esp the first half...
