學習川語錄：總統對政府關門擔負全責
2011年奧巴馬總統任期，經過11次協商兩黨達成協議，避免了一次政府關門. 當時具有地產商人和電視主持人身份的川普在兩黨達成協議的前一天的2011年4月7日，在接受NBC今日欄目主持人Meredith Vieira採訪時，對可能發生的政府關門如此評論說:
“總統（當時的奧巴馬）會因此擔負全責”，並補充道：“如果政府停擺，我認為這將對美國總統造成極其負面的影響。他必須把大家團結起來。”
Vieira隨後問川普，如果他入主白宮會如何應對。川普回答說：“我會把大家召集起來，制定預算。”
He then said he thought "the president [Obama at the time] would be blamed," adding: "If there is a shutdown, I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States. He's the one that has to get people together."
Vieira then asked Trump how he would respond if he were in the Oval Office. He responded: "I would get everybody together and we'd have a budget."
也是2013年奧巴馬總統時期，發生了16天的聯邦政府關門。
2013年9月30日，川普在接受福克斯電視台Fox & Friends 欄目主持人Elisabeth Hasselbeck的採訪中如是說：
“有趣的是，25年後、50年後、100年後，當人們談論政府停擺時，他們會談論美國總統，“當時的總統是誰？”他們不會談論眾議院議長、參議院議長是誰，也不會談論誰在華盛頓掌權。他們會談論的是，“奧巴馬執政期間的政府關門，簡直是一場災難。 ”
You know, the interesting thing is, in 25 years, in 50 years and 100 years from now, when the government is, you know when they talk about the government shutdown, they're going to be talking about the president of the United States, "Who was the president at that time?" They're not going to be talking who the head of the House was, the head of the Senate, who's running things in Washington. They're going to be talking about, "During the Obama administration, it was a disaster."
在此次採訪中他還說:

我在美國生活37年時間中經歷過下列幾次政府關門：
90年代中期克林頓總統任期內21天政府關門。
2013奧巴馬總統任期內16天政府關門。
2018川普總統第一任期內35天政府關門。
2025川普總統第二任期內43天政府關門。
川普兩屆任期內就有兩次政府關門，第一次關門35天第二次關門43天，就關門次數和關門天數來說他在美國歷史上創造了全新紀錄，過去的美國總統沒有任何一個可以與他相媲美。偉哉川普！
