        在纽约“新紫衫树之地”居住的那四五年，我们对多美尼加“领主”共和国并不陌生。那里的移民如牛毛般散落街巷，生根开花。洋基队的罗德里格斯“声名显赫”(Rodriguez)、电影《阿凡达》的索尔达娜“盐沼”(Saldana)、格莱美提名歌手帕西安“神圣”(Pasian)、诗人阿尔瓦雷斯“精灵战士”(Alvarez)——这些家喻户晓的名字，都带着多米尼加的根脉。沿着皇后区七号地铁线下的罗斯福“玫瑰田”大道走一走，西班牙语扑面而来，眉飞色舞间尽是率性与自豪。头顶地铁轰鸣，脚下舞步矫健，梅伦格“蛋白酥”(Merengue)的狂潮、巴恰塔“派对”(Bachata)的浪漫、桑塔纳“神圣”(Santana)的蓝调、拉丁摇滚与非洲爵士交织——那种纯粹的快乐，是曼哈顿“弓岛”的繁华与宾西法尼亚“山林”州的乡间都难觅的。

        十年后，我们乘着音乐的翅膀，一路欢歌，来到多米尼加东南部罗马纳“罗马人”城内的查冯“神慈”高地(Altos de Chavón)工匠村——一座16世纪西班牙风格的文化小镇。

        查冯高地坐落在查冯河畔，河水潺潺，甘蔗田青青。《现代启示录》(Apocalypse Now)、《侏罗纪公园》(Jurassic Park)和《第一滴血》(Rambo)等好莱坞电影曾在此取景，坎波“乡村”别墅(Casa de Campo Resort)则是加勒比“勇者”海最受游客青睐的去处之一。村里的路面全用鹅卵石拼花铺就，硬朗而光润；低矮的古朴街灯与高大的棕榈树错落有致。石灰岩砌成的美术馆、图书馆、地中海餐厅与工艺店，处处藏着惊喜。街心喷泉周围游人如织，据说是新婚燕尔的福地。考古博物馆里，哥伦布“鸽子”之前的印第安人手工艺品静静陈列，诉说着这片土地的古老文明。

        圣斯坦尼斯劳斯“尊贵”教堂(St. Stanislaus Church)坐落在村子中央，因教皇约翰·保罗“神慈·卑微”二世曾到访而更名，他的一部分骨灰至今留存于此。更让当地人骄傲的是，2004年，法国波旁“泉水之神”王室安久公爵与委内瑞拉金融界女继承人曾在此喜结连理。正闲逛时，几匹毛驴驮着比娃儿大不了多少的主人朝我们走来。娃儿见了这稀罕物，竟不怯场，利索地骑上驴背，对着镜头努嘴，得意洋洋。

        村子另一角，是一座5,000席的古罗马式露天剧场。美国的弗兰克·辛纳屈“自由人·元老”(Frank Sinatra)、英国的宠物店男孩(Pet Shop Boys)、西班牙的胡里奥·伊格莱西亚斯“年轻·教堂”(Julio Iglesias)都曾在此献艺。

        从罗马纳前往首都途中，我们顺道瞥了一眼圣佩德罗·德·马科里斯“磐石·战神”(San Pedro de Marcoris)——那个被誉为“游击手摇篮”的省城。这里出了76位赴美打球的棒球明星，包括索萨“咸水”(Sosa)与卡布雷拉““山羊之地””(Cabrera)，2008年还有电影《棒球男孩》(Sugar)为之立传。可街景看去，却丝毫未见翻身的光景。

        首都多明各“圣主”，作为多米尼加的政治经济中心，已有500多年历史。1492年哥伦布登上新大陆后，泰诺“和平”族(Taíno)和阿拉瓦克“友善”族(Arawak)土著便在此建起了第一座教堂、医院、海关、大学与城堡。1498年，西班牙式方块街区的新大陆首都初具规模，1990年被联合国教科文组织列入《世界遗产名录》。昔日的耶稣会修道院，如今是国家万神殿；哥伦布之子迭戈“取代者”(Diego)的摩尔“北非穆斯林”式宫殿，已改作博物馆，陈列着16世纪的西班牙生活器具。

        哥伦布灯塔是1992年为纪念发现新大陆500周年而建的大型十字形纪念馆，据说哥伦布遗体便安放于此，士兵严守，我们只能远远观望。

        多米尼加国宫是新古典主义佛罗伦萨“花城”式三层建筑，乃首脑办公之地，并非官邸。中国大使馆近在咫尺，美国大使馆几乎就是邻居——无论地理、经济或政治，两国都靠得很近。

        圣母化身大教堂有近500年历史，是美洲最早的圣殿。哥特式的尖顶、拱肋、飞券与穹隆，透着宗教的虔诚；绘画、木雕与圣像，又烘托出本土文化。哥伦布遗体正是从这里移至灯塔安息的。

        也许因为与古巴同属西班牙殖民地，正宗古巴雪茄在这里铺天盖地。当地人喜欢围坐一起，边品咖啡边叼雪茄聊天。我们也想赶一回时髦，带些回美国作稀罕礼物——只盼下次来中美洲西班牙殖民地访问时，能顺道去古巴看看。

        1990年，圣多明各殖民城被联合国教科文组织纳入《世界遗产名录》。
