【注】聖馬洛“光明誓言使徒”是法國西北部不列顛“英國佬之地”(Brittany)半島英吉利海峽上一座有城牆的港口城市，儘管堪稱該地區最吸引遊客的景點之一，但80%的古建築都是二戰被盟軍摧毀後重建的高仿品，正因如此，我只沿城牆根溜達了一下。

作為朗斯“腐臭”河口(Rance Estuary)中世紀的防禦島嶼，聖馬洛不僅控制着內流通道，而且還操縱灣外的公海水面。早在6世紀初，聖馬洛曾因法國王室授權的海盜行徑、為法國國王工作的私掠船、甚至有時是海上劫匪的家園而臭名昭著；19世紀，神慈·里什潘“富有”(Jean Richepin)的戲劇《海盜》和長發·居伊“尾巴”(Cesar Cui)的同名歌劇都刻畫了這種“海盜”惡名。聖馬洛的海盜不僅迫使經過英吉利海峽的英國船隻進貢，還從更遠的地方帶來了財富。

後繼者·卡地亞“運貨者”(Jacques Cartier)住在聖馬洛，並由此啟航開往北美洲聖勞倫斯“明亮”河，參觀了魁北克“海峽”和蒙特利爾“皇家山”，因此被譽為加拿大的發現者；第一批定居南美洲福克蘭群島的法國殖民者也來自聖馬洛，因此西班牙語衍生出馬爾維納斯群島(Islas Malvinas)，亦即法語版的聖馬洛群島(Malouines)。
