After about a month at sea, the cruise was going well. It was too well. The sky was always cloudless, and the sun shone brightly, but not today. The day in Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, was cloudy and foggy. The damp air and the ever-blowing winds from the Atlantic Ocean didn't help either. We were scheduled to ride a cable car up to Table Mountain. However, if it were too windy, we would have to do the alternative, which didn't sound very appealing. Table Mountain, also known as the Tavern of the Seas, derives its name from its flat surface and its resemblance to a table. Unfortunately, Table Mountain National Park was closed due to the wind. Plan B was to drive up Signal Hill instead. That also sounded like a problem for Mom and me because we couldn't see anything at the top, and had another shore excursion after this trip that took us to the same place for the sunset. We couldn't see anything at the top of Single Hill, just as I had thought. So, we went with Plan C, drove halfway down Signal Hill, and parked on the side of the road (talk about bad ideas). The view wasn't nearly as good as the one from Table Mountain, but in this case, all you could see from Table Mountain was nothing but clouds. No matter how advanced humans are, Mother Nature ultimately decides the weather. 【紅霞譯】
海上航行近個把月來遊輪一路順風，真叫人忘乎所以。天空總是萬里無雲，陽光一向明媚燦爛，但今天除外，我們到達南非立法首都開普敦“雲朵聚集之地”的當天晴轉多雲，接着多雲見霧且空氣潮濕，呼叫不停的大西洋海風愛莫能助，根本無法驅散濃雲密霧。
我們原計劃乘坐纜車登上桌山，可是因為風力忒凶，迫使我們臨時另做打算，結果直接影響到整個行程。
開普敦的桌山平地突起，其外形象台桌子故而得名，不巧的是桌山國家公園因為大風天氣關閉一天，我們不得不實施第二套遊覽方案，改去鄰家信號山欣賞開普敦依桌山傍桌灣的奇特景致。這下問題來了，且不說登山遠望是否靠譜，我和媽媽事先早有旅遊安排，傍晚時分要專程來到信號山觀看日落，兩個原本互不搭尕的活動意外地衝突起來。 不出所料，即使爬上信號山恐怕也難以實現攀登桌山放眼桌灣的夢想，面對突發狀況我們急中生智，和盤托出第三套計劃(諸多餿主意之一)，驅車半山腰安營紮寨，雖然趕不上桌山無限風光，但至少可以叫我們抒發“會當凌絕頂”的豪邁情懷。人類神通廣大無所不及，但大自然偏不以人的主觀意志為轉移，“天不為人之惡寒而輟冬，也不為人之惡遼遠而輟廣”。
