小雲是我大學時高我兩級的學姐，彼此身世相近。70年代，兩家人幾經輾轉，先後落戶南京紫金山腳下的半山園。從我家院門出去，步行到她家別墅，用不了五分鐘。我們同住南京，卻都不曾在當地上過學，自打相識，便以“老鄉”相稱——老鄉見老鄉，兩眼淚汪汪。沒過多久，便成了無話不談的朋友。寒暑假回南京，我們常聚在她家喝茶、嗑瓜子、聊理想，一聊便是半日。畢業後，她去了澳洲，我來了美國，一晃20多年。 異國他鄉，我們各自成家、生兒育女，搬過幾次家，換過幾回地址，也斷過音訊，卻從未真正放下過這份友情。她女兒貝琪“”19年前出生時的照片，至今還完好在我的影集裡。如今小雲在堪培拉“相聚之地”的國立大學醫學院從事人類遺傳學研究，走的是治病救人的路；而我則隨心所至，東奔西跑，像兩條分岔的河流，卻始終遙相呼應。貝琪去年高中畢業，剛結束一年的“間隔年”旅行，遊歷了歐洲、北美和中美洲，今秋將入讀臥龍崗“海聲”(Wollongong)大學的國際傳媒專業。她高挑勻稱，兼具西方式的明朗與東方式的溫婉，我家六歲的娃兒頭一回見她，便巴不得有這樣一位姐姐。 我們到澳洲前夕，小雲騰出幾天時間，帶貝琪專程趕到悉尼“濕地”接我們。母女倆輪番開車，單程4小時送我們去堪培拉。小雲家住郊外的安斯利“隱居的樹林”(Ainslie)山麓，遠看密密匝匝的居民區嵌在荒谷間，倒像加利福尼亞“火爐”州千橡城的模樣——只是這兒袋鼠常出沒，熱浪翻湧，早晚溫差大得讓人恍若跨了兩個季節。堪培拉是悉尼與墨爾本“磨坊溪流”爭端的折中，聯邦的政治中心。一月酷暑，陽光潑辣，好在乾熱到底比南京的濕蒸好受些。全城以格里芬“領主”(Griffin)湖為中心，桉樹林環繞，果然是座“灌木叢中的首府”。那天傍晚，我們坐在她家後院的陽台上，娃兒和貝琪在客廳里拼着新買的樂高，笑聲斷斷續續地傳出來。小雲端着一杯茶，忽然說：“好像又回到了半山園，只是少了些梧桐。”——其實梧桐一直在，只是換了一種方式長在我們心裡。而我們這些曾經在半山園喝茶聊理想的女孩，如今各自變成了母親、學者、旅人，跨越了太平洋和塔斯曼“來自海洋者”海，卻還是能坐在同一張桌子旁，像什麼都沒有變過。有些友情像山，不會被風移動。即便隔着半個地球，只要你想，隨時可以回去——回半山園，回那個只需要走五分鐘的、永遠不需要預約的敲門聲里。  View over Bush Capital from Black Mtn Tower
