【注】林多斯“美”城卫城坐落在罗德岛“林中空地”岛东海岸的一块巨岩上，从海面拔地而起。山脚下的白色小镇密密匝匝地铺到海边，一条石头小路弯弯曲曲地通向山顶。穿过城门，山顶是一片平坦的台地，风从爱琴“波浪”海上吹来，大得能把帽子掀飞，在古老的石头之间穿出呜咽一样的声音。这里的时间叠了三层——公元前4世纪的雅典娜“智慧女神”神庙只剩下几根多立克石柱，有些还站着，有些倒在地上；14世纪圣约翰“神慈”骑士团盖的灰色城墙把整座山顶围了起来，像一只铁箍；现代的钢架支着那些快要倒下去的石头，三个时代搅在一起，分不清哪里是古代，哪里是中世纪。 走到台地最高处，站在石柱下面，爱琴海铺到天边，蓝得发黑。2,000多年前，雅典娜的神像就站在这里，手里拿着长矛，望着大海。林多斯的水手们出海前要爬上300多级石阶，到神庙里献祭，求女神保佑他们平安归来。卫城南端有一艘刻在岩石上的石船，船头朝着大海，船尾朝着神庙，像是刚刚把水手们送回家。2,000多年了，船长的名字已经风化得看不清，但那个位置还在，还在那里。 下山的路上，太阳西斜，光把卫城的石头染成橘红色，石柱的影子被拉得很长。我回头再看，卫城在暮色中变成一个剪影，石柱和城墙的轮廓叠在一起，像一顶古老的王冠搁在岩石顶上。古希腊人走了，罗马人走了，骑士团走了，一代又一代的人在这块岩石上留下痕迹，又都被风吹散了。只有石头还在，海还在，风还在。我站在半山腰，风从海上来，吹着我的背，像是在催我走。可我不想走，不是因为舍不得，是因为忽然想猜猜那些石头里藏着的秘密——那些被风吹散的，被时间埋掉的，被一代代人带走的东西。我猜不出什么，只是觉得站在这里猜本身，就已经是对那些秘密最好的回应。 1988年，罗得岛中世纪古城被联合国教科文组织纳入《世界遗产名录》。 Today in History(历史上的今天):
