Glada Hurt was a boy who loved nature deeply. Unfortunately, he died in a car accident at a very young age. All his peers from the 5th grade are writing essays about environmental protection in memory of Glada Hurt. 〖Essay〗 Earth is a beautiful place. It boasts excellent, snow-capped mountains of wonder, as well as lush, dense jungles of mystery. This is why we humans must protect it; we can also destroy it in more ways than one. That is precisely what we are doing today. Factories are producing carbon dioxide, contributing to global warming. Humans are deforesting acres at a time. It is time to act. But instead of trying to save the environment overnight, we should start by doing small things. Too much carbon dioxide is like poison to the Earth, so we should limit the amount we put into the atmosphere by simple things like carpooling. Why should we produce twice the carbon dioxide when we can use half of it by carpooling? But even better still, if your destination is nearby, why not ride your bike there? It's entirely carbon dioxide-free, making it great for the environment. Another fantastic way to help save the environment is to conserve power, and it's a lot simpler than it seems. Don't turn on the lights when there is still sunlight; try to avoid using lights when you're not in the room. Shut down computers when not in use, and, if possible, avoid using lights that require more electricity. This can help us conserve energy, which means factories producing electricity will put less pollution into the sky. We all know plants and trees eat carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Planting a garden not only helps absorb carbon dioxide but also gives visitors a good first impression of your house. It also benefits other plants, as insects can pollinate them. However, avoid using pesticides because they can quickly enter the food chain through pollination, and anything that eats those bugs would die from the pesticide, disrupting the food chain. The Earth looks like a fragile rose. It can die, just like the environment can, but it is our home, and because it is our home, we must protect it. 【紅霞譯】 〖前言〗
哥蘭達·赫特“玉石·雄鹿”是一位熱愛大自然的男孩，因車禍不幸身亡。今年五年級全體學生要求撰稿發表評論，藉助呼籲加強環保意識的方式來紀念這位曾經有過同樣夢想追求的年輕朋友。 〖正文〗 地球是個美麗的地方，既涵括氣勢磅礴的雪山之奇異，又蘊藏鬱鬱蔥蔥的密林之奧秘，我們人類一定要好好保護它，不然它難以擺脫滅頂之災。當今大自然正處在這樣的緊要關頭，工廠排泄二氧化碳，引發全球變暖；人類亂砍濫伐，導致森林面積減少，現在真正到了該採取行動的時候。治理環境談何容易，絕非靠一夜光景即能實現，我們應該先從小事入手。 過多的二氧化碳對地球有毒，因此我們應該限制進入大氣層的二氧化碳含量。合夥搭車簡便易行，如果它能幫助降低一半汽車尾氣，我們何樂而不為？還有一種更有效的方法就是，倘若你離目的地不遠，為什麼不騎自行車去呢？騎自行車完全排除產生二氧化碳的可能性，對大自然有百利而無一害。
除此之外，節約用電對環保至關重要， 乍一聽上去好像比較複雜，其實做起來非常容易。儘量利用光線照明，天黑之前或者只要出門在外都不要開燈；不用計算機時，索性把它關掉；如果可能，最好使用節能燈。電用的少了，也就意味着電廠不必發那麼多電，從而進一步降低空氣污染。
我們都知道，植物進行光合作用時，吸進二氧化碳，吐出氧氣。既然如此，大家應該種植花草，一來能減少二氧化碳，二來會給首次前來拜訪您家的客人留下良好印象。昆蟲在花草之間傳粉授粉，有助於植物生長，但千萬不要使用農藥，農藥一旦毒死昆蟲，整個食物鏈必將遭受破壞。 地球如同一支脆弱的玫瑰，會從宇宙中消亡，環境也是一樣，既然地球是我們的家園，我們必須保護它。
