【注】亨利·默瑟“家主·商人”(Henry C. Mercer，1856—1930年)毕业于哈佛大学文学院、宾州大学法学院，被视为考古学家、人类学家、陶艺家、学者和古物学家。1911年—1912年间，他利用姑妈留下的遗产创建了摩拉维亚“水流”陶器瓷砖厂，藉之打造极具个性的陶瓷艺术。摩拉维亚工坊的成功离不开默瑟的睿智，通过少量投资、相对廉价的运营成本以及先进的生物技术制造出一系列装饰性品牌，并深得评论家赞誉和建筑师的追捧，其作品手工精湛货真价实，充分表达了美国工艺美术运动的理念，默瑟因此而成为该运动最重要的支持者之一，他的瓷砖象征着手工传统技艺的重生与希望。廿世纪初，默瑟被公认为首屈一指的“艺术”瓷砖制造商；接下来的卅年间，默瑟陶艺独领风骚，不仅受到主流建筑师的推崇和鉴赏家的青睐，而且全国各地很多公共建筑和私人装饰更是趋之若鹜。时至今日，默瑟极富开创性的陶艺风格仍然影响着许多瓷砖制造商。
