If pictures contain one thousand words, then a music sheet contains ten thousand. Music is a universal language. There are no barriers to music, as it resonates with everyone's heart. Certain people, though, can bring the music to the surface. This is what it means to be a musician. To be a musician, a person expresses the music within through instruments, transforming their emotion into sound. Although music is often just for fun, many people, like my mom, take it very seriously. Nothing is wrong, but it takes a lot of time off my daily schedule. And for what, most people ask? A good resume, or to impress teachers and future bosses? I don't know why she is so serious about music. It gives benefits to the mind, but that's what all drug dealers tell little kids. Music is a part of everyday life that surrounds us everywhere. People who understand it may be able to use one of the key building blocks of the universe. If you have no interest in the in-laws of the foundation of everything, music holds a large part in recreation in modern societies. The fact is that musicians with a wide range of skills typically earn a substantial income. Technically, it would be true if it were the 21st century to be a "pop star," all people required was a strong repeating beat and auto-tuning. Not to mention a substantial amount of money passed down from their parents. Sometimes, I think about how similar politicians and pop stars are. But these are just exclusions, as the music comes in many forms. As unusual as it may sound, modern pop is considered music, despite lacking a traditional musical feel. Then again, impressionist and contemporary classical music don't seem to have a sense of direction either. That's just a personal taste, as many concerts now may seem to revolve around the random playing of instruments. The beauty of music is that it encompasses a wide range of styles, offering each person something to enjoy. Whether it is a traditional cultural song or a Skrillex auto-tuned mash, there is always a beat to bob your head or hum to. Yet there is also a certain satisfaction in performing for someone else, watching them subtly tap their feet. Music conveys a profound message and evokes an even deeper feeling, whether one is performing or listening. For the past few years, I've been attending the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival hosted by the Philadelphia Music Teachers Association (PhMTA), where students test their skills. They perform in front of judges, who give grades reflecting on their presentation. The meeting is more of an experience than a test, considering I probably will never win an actual piano competition. Ever. And yes, although the performance had mess-ups, and yes, I was depressed. However, music should be light-hearted or a way to express emotion.
Today in History(历史上的今天): 2013: First Day @ Lavner Camp(记拉沃尔营第一天) 2011年钢琴考级与音乐教师节(2011 Dorothy Sutton Performance Fest)
