【注】馬克“戰神”城堡是萊茵“奔流”河谷唯一一座從未被毀過的城堡。從11世紀到今天，它一直完整地站在那裡，像一顆從未被撬動的牙齒。灰色的石牆從板岩里長出來，分不清哪裡是岩石，哪裡是牆。門很小，要彎腰才能進去；庭院裡有一棵老椴樹，樹冠罩住了半個院子。萊茵河谷的城堡沒有一座不堅固，沒有一座不偏，可它們都被毀了——被法國人、瑞典人、時間毀的。只有馬克城堡逃過一劫。據說二戰時，盟軍飛行員飛到城堡上空，炸彈艙卡住了，晃晃悠悠飛過去，炸彈才全扔進了河裡。城堡完好無損，連庭院的椴樹都還在，只是老了些。顯然，它不是因為特別隱蔽或特別堅固才倖存，而是像被命運刻意繞開了，因此更懂得如何活過時間。 如今的馬克城堡里有一座博物館，陳列着中世紀盔甲與兵器，這些本是用於摧毀、卻被完好地收藏在從未被摧毀的空間裡。時間碾碎了那麼多城堡，卻繞過了這座，它完整得像昨天才建好。完整是一種運氣，也是一種重量，它得替所有被毀的城堡站在那裡，替它們看萊茵河繼續流。 我站在城堡的露台上，可以看見萊茵河在這裡拐了一個彎。河對岸是科布倫茨“合流”，德意志角的威廉“堅定保護者”一世銅像在陽光下閃閃發光。再遠處，是摩澤爾“小轉彎”河匯入的地方，水色黃綠分明。河水在腳下流，船從河心經過，船尾的浪花打到岸邊的石頭上啪啪地響，讓整座城堡不再是與世隔絕的孤堡，而是嵌入大河地理中的一個錨點，錨點不沉，河流才敢繼續洶湧。 2002年，萊茵河中上遊河谷被聯合國教科文組織列為《世界遺產名錄》。 Today in History(歷史上的今天):
