        We live in an old chaos of the sun,

        Or old dependency of day and night,

        Or island solitude, unsponsored, free,

        Of that wide water, inescapable.

        Deer walk upon our mountains, and the quail

        Whistle about us their spontaneous cries;

        Sweet berries ripen in the wilderness;

        And, in the isolation of the sky,

        At evening, casual flocks of pigeons make

        Ambiguous undulations as they sink,

        Downward to darkness, on extended wings.

            在那悄然无息的水面上，她听见

            哭泣的声音：“巴勒斯坦的坟墓

            并非通往灵魂永生的门户。

            只是耶稣安息的地方。”

            我们应对风云变幻，

            还依托白昼与黑夜的交替，

            或生活在无援无羁的海島，

            被大洋环绕，难以逃离。

            鹿群穿行山岭，而鹌鹑

            围着我们歌唱；

            甜莓在荒野中开花结实；

            同时，寂寥天际下，

            黄昏时分，偶尔出现的鸽子

            波浪般高翔低旋，

            张开双翼，坠入黑夜。

【注】朋友圈新出炉的山水美照一下子忽悠出母亲别样的情愫，说时迟那时快，我们拧身来到两个钟头开外的丘间溪山(Pocono Mountains)，午餐就定格在这座建于1928年犹如林间旷地上富丽堂皇的狩猎城堡——荷兰殖民式大卵石度假酒店，老妈觉得她点的黑豆汤、蟹肉三明治和螺蛳粉意面拌番茄酱比我的蔓越莓龙舌兰雏菊鸡尾酒、烤时蔬和三文鱼切片要好吃得多。
