You know, eighth grade is just seventh grade plus one. It makes sense, I guess. Every year, at the start of school, there is always a speech about how the new grade is "I'm feeling different" and "they are all different." He kind of liked the stuff that was all the same in the early school years. As the seventh grade approached, the changes between grade levels began to grow larger and larger. So, in math, there is no "p" us one" "from the seventh to the eighth grade, or like any other grade ascendance. It is, quite literally, exponentially increasing, and with the words of a math worksheet, "x", which is equal to grade level 2. At the end of the first marking period of the eighth grade, I must say that physical science is not looking pretty. I receive excellent test grades, but the conclusions often fall short. There is never enough "reasoning," and so incidentally only the section on the rubric is worth double versus the other parts. Sure, each lab conclusion is only around 30 points, but small things may lead to more considerable treasures or, in this case, consequences. Ironically, there is also a saying about how small pebbles thrown in a river do not change its flow, which applies more to my standpoint since I still hung on to an A. I'm not here to talk about grade averages. So far, the eighth grade has not proven overwhelmingly challenging; thus, there is no reason for me to stress the struggles. If anything, extracurricular activities have decreased. However, some things do stand out, such as NJHS. Those letters stand for the National Junior Honor Society, which means you're outstanding in school and can begin leading and volunteering outside of school events, like helping with fundraisers and holiday dances. By now, in the first marking period, we had a Halloween dance, which I didn't attend because of my piano lessons. As lame as that sounds, the lesson was crucial for the impending performance the following week. Luckily, I wasn't moved from the list, and I plan on attending the next event, assuming it isn't any other essential piano recital or audition. The society itself was nerve-racking enough. Most standardized tests are not as intimidating as students believe, but the unique font on the paper can make them seem infinitely more complex. The NJHS application seemed very intimidating, and a strange, harsh phrase was used to describe the requirements of being an NJHS member. After enduring a great deal of stress and volunteering, I applied and was selected. It was a rare spark of a highlight until the end of the first marking period. Life has become more arduous, but you quickly get used to it. Sooner or later, though, there's going to be a curveball thrown in my direction. I have no idea when, where, why, or what it will be. However, there is one thing I do know. Based on the enormous differences this marking period has given me, all the "crazy" things are going on. The eighth grade is just the seventh +1.
