【注】加的斯“堡壘”，一座人口不足13萬的濱海小城，淵源卻可追溯至3,500年前——堪稱歐洲最古老的文明活化石。它靜臥於伊比利亞“西班牙—葡萄牙”半島南端，如地中海的門戶，千百年來被無數文明垂青與爭奪。1812年，西班牙第一部憲法在此簽署，為古城添上濃墨重彩的一筆。加的斯榮膺西班牙乃至西歐最古老城市的盛譽，實至名歸。 在希臘神話中，大力神赫拉克勒斯“女王的榮耀”曾在此立下擎天之柱；真實的歷史裡，它曾是西班牙白銀艦隊的繁榮港口，滿載新大陸財富的船隻從這裡駛入歐洲。穿行於老城區蜿蜒的街巷，仍能找到諸般文明的蹤跡：腓尼基人(公元前1100年)最早建立商埠，迦太基人(約公元前6世紀)隨後接掌，羅馬人(公元前206年)使之成為帝國行省要衝，而後摩爾人(711年—1262年)又留下近6個世紀的伊斯蘭印記。每一塊斑駁的石頭、每一座古舊的教堂與堡壘，都在無聲訴說着這片土地上曾經的風雲變幻。 我站在老城區一個不起眼的十字路口，腳下的石板被無數腳步磨得光滑，卻仍能隱約分辨出不同時代鋪設的痕跡——羅馬人的規整，摩爾人的錯落，近代的修補。我忽然覺得，這座城市更像一部層層疊壓的手稿，每個征服者都在前人的篇章上寫下自己的註腳，卻從未徹底刪除之前的內容。而此刻我作為過客，只是翻到了其中一頁，就被那些未及展開的章節所攫住。地中海的風正從港口那邊吹來，帶着鹽和遠方——而我站在歷史沉積層的表面，短暫地成為了這部手稿最新的標點。而在那些未及閱讀的頁面上，仍有千萬個聲音在等待，等待另一個不急於離開的人，在石階上停駐，傾聽它們越過漫長世紀的耳語。那些耳語不會自己發聲，它們需要某種特定的沉默來配合——而我正嘗試以我的方式，辨認它們。
