And the world was calm. The truth in a calm world, In which there is no other meaning, itself

是宁静，是夏夜，归根结底 是夜深看书的读者。 【注】宾夕法尼亚“山林”州雄鹿郡的廊桥横跨在无名的小溪上，隐没在枫树与橡树的浓荫里，像是从19世纪走来的老人，静静地守在乡间路旁。它们又被叫作“吻桥”——马车悠悠的年代，年轻的情侣驾着马车穿过廊桥，桥内光线昏暗，四下无人，便可以偷偷地亲一下。廊桥的顶棚遮住了外界的目光，也遮住了少女脸上泛起的红晕。雄鹿郡现存12座这样的廊桥，大多建于1826年至1875年间，全部涂着暖调沉稳的红漆——不是因为红色好看，而是因为红漆最便宜，也最能保护木质结构。铁锈红的桥身在翠绿的树林与金黄的原野间格外醒目，成了乡村风景中最动人的点缀。 走进廊桥内部，光线立刻暗了下来。两侧的百叶窗透进几缕斜阳，照亮了空气中飘浮的尘埃。车轮在木板上碾过的痕迹还深深地刻在那里，桁架结构交错纵横，像巨大的积木搭成的迷宫。廊桥不设防，谦卑地俯身在小溪上，让农夫的马车、孩子们的脚步、情侣们的细语从身上经过。如今汽车有了更宽阔的新桥，但廊桥还在，游客从远方赶来拍照、野餐、发呆，偶尔还能看到年轻的情侣在桥的阴影里悄悄接吻。 我靠着桥栏站了一会儿，光从窗缝里斜斜地落进来，浮尘在光束里缓缓飘动。忽然想，150年前，是不是也有一个人站在我现在站的位置，扶着同一根木梁，等着另一个人从桥的那头走过来？桥已经老了，车轮的沟壑深深刻进木板，红漆一层层剥落又重刷，可它还是当年那条路——接住每一个过路的人，不挑时间，不问来意。旧时的马车、今日的游人、躲雨的行人、偷吻的情侣，都被它轻轻接住了，又轻轻送走。桥不说话，可它用一根木梁告诉了我：好的东西不一定要新，只是时间过去了，它还愿意替人撑着路，就值得再走一遍。  Cabin Run Covered Bridge (1871) w/ Vertical Board Siding on the Sides, Portals & Interior Walls
