上个世纪60年代，我没来得及赶上中国的“文革”大串连，如今却不期而遇美国“过节”大串连，膨胀的情绪同样难以言喻。在宾夕法尼亚“山林”州过节的日子不算少：美国本土的、中国正宗的、国际时髦的、乡下盛行的，几乎每个月都能涉猎一二。20年深受东西双重文化熏陶的我早已汇入当地生活大熔炉，赶上什么过什么，哪儿有热闹就往哪儿凑。年终末了去岁迎新之际，我更是卯足了劲，携老带幼走家串户——昨个刚从邻家门出，今儿又入朋友屋内，明天再登宝殿。 对我而言，最重要的莫过于自个作东，亲手操办圣诞家宴，这是我最近六七年刻意保持的节日传统。快到八岁的娃儿被感染得热血沸腾，提前把形似猪窝的娱乐室规置一新，好让同伴们见缝插针找到落脚的地盘；外婆愿意先把华丽的音符泼洒在油烟四起的厨房，再用迷人的歌喉点缀好每一盘美味佳肴，里里外外忙得不亦乐乎。我则全盘统筹，将楼上楼下每一个房间设计成颇具博物馆氛围的画廊展厅——酒足饭饱之后，客人们可以藉之化食消遣。一楼列举了周游列国时收罗的奇书异画；二楼布满了娃儿东漂西游的光辉足迹；地下室则记录了家庭成员南征北战的奇异经历。 期间，我还主持了一场小型音乐会，现场40位来宾中的9位年轻“演员”都是有备而来，个个献上一曲最具水平的古典乐章。宴会散去时已是深夜，客人们披上大衣在门廊道别，雪花落在他们的肩头，像一句来不及说出口的“明年见”。娃儿站在窗边，看着最后一批车灯消失在街角，转身说：“妈妈，今天像一整个星期那么长。”——是的，节日的长度从来不由钟表决定。它被笑声拉长，被食物填满，被那些从不同屋檐下聚到同一张桌旁的面孔撑得鼓鼓的。无欢不成宴，节日给大家带来的岂止是欢颜——它让原本分散的日子，在某些夜晚重新聚拢，变成一个可以回头的坐标。而20年后，当他再次回忆起这个冬天，他大约不记得那些画廊里展出的奇书异画，但会记得：外婆的歌声是从厨房里飘出来的，妈妈在人群之间穿梭时，围裙的一角总是挂着微笑。而那个被他自己收拾干净的娱乐室，是他在这个世界上最早学会的，关于“待客”的第一课。  Christmas Party (圣诞聚会 12-25-2010)
