 | 小学三年级·学生生涯(3rd Grade Life in 2011) |
| | 2011-11-13 虽说宾州公立学校教育质量比邻居新泽西州差出十万八千里，但各种各样的考试一点都不逊色。自从孩子进入小学三年级以后，章节小考、阶段中考、单元大考、满月会考、季度超考、……络绎不绝。模拟练习与实际比武相结合，成绩高低与作业多少相匹配。每次获得满分者，班主任凯丽蔻太太(Mrs. Kalikow)不仅开恩豁免任何附加作业，而且还亲手送上一块最好吃的时尚甜点！ 这个星期更加热闹，除了周二是美国地区性选举日、学校不得不放假而外，其余五天孩子都在全力以赴应付考试，甚至连周末休息也不能放过！星期一语文，星期三算术，星期四科学，星期五社会与常识，星期天光华中文学校期中考试和海外中小学生汉语考试(YCT)，是一个彻头彻尾的考试周！
其实，孩子所在的学校不光对“考”学生乐此不疲，而且对“整”学生更加情有独钟。这回各科笔试一结束，五花八门的实践活动便立刻全方位地开展起来。
临近感恩节，孩子课外记事、记人、记物无一不是围绕亲情加友情的题材。凯丽蔻太太经常心血来潮主意连篇，孩子毫无怨言积极响应，最近竟动手起草了一篇长达三、四页的童话剧本，着重刻画当人们欢庆佳节之际火鸡家族生死存亡的故事。
“水利项目”是三年级第一个科学调研课题。首先，孩子要专门登陆美国公共电视儿童网站学习任何相关知识，譬如“浮力”原理。然后，通过具体实验──“会跳舞的葡萄干”，孩子必须向全班同学汇报并演示自己如何验证所得出的结论。气泡帮助葡萄干游弋于苏打饮料上下，就像救生衣可以产生浮力供人们漂流一样。演讲完毕，凯丽蔻太太还要针对每个学生实验前提出的预测、实验过程中的步骤和所得数据、实验结论以及口述表达四个方面进行综合评分。
为了配合社会与常识课教授内容，孩子需要开动脑筋，分别找出四种不同比重的液体实物，逐一放到透明空水瓶里，并仔细观察各自所处的自然状态：比重最轻的消毒酒精(红色)位于最上层，食用植物油(黄色)其次，生理盐水(蓝色)占居第三层，最重的玉米糖浆(白色)将沉入底部第四层。
“挑战数学”则是摆在孩子面前另一个重大选题。跟长一岁四年级“快班”【注】的学生一起学习代数几何，孩子面临的挑战其实不仅仅来自数学本身，挑战自己可不是简单的儿戏！
【注】根据三年级宾州统考(PSSA)成绩，学校将四年级以上的学生划分成一个“快班”和三个“普通班”。
