Cape Horn in Chile is located at the latitude 55 degrees 58 minutes 47 seconds south and the longitude 67 degrees 16 minutes 18 seconds west as the southernmost part of the world other than Antarctica. It covers the two largest bodies of water, i.e. the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean, and is known as a notorious graveyard for sailors. This morning, I awoke to the sound of three short blasts followed by the light flicked on. I really didn't like the wake-up call, but I hastily dressed and ate a quick breakfast of a muffin. After devouring the platter and brushing my teeth, I was jumping with delight on the Sun Deck and cruised through Cape Horn. What met my eyes was a sight not nearly what I expected. The land was deserted with harsh winds and cold conditions. Other than a few seagulls, the grassy plains stretched on for miles without wildlife presence. But the worst of all was the wind from the west when I stood in the middle of nowhere. I was pretty sure that I could fly if I let go of the handrail. Unusual rock formations with deep grooves and granite cliffs covered in trees were its signature features. However, it seemed much better than South East Cape in Tasman Sea, Australia when I had a voyage of exploration across Oceania two years ago. Gale gales, rogue waves, strong currents, and crumbling icebergs made the passage around Cape Horn one of the most hazardous shipping routes in the world.
As I ran down the steps to the Youth Center, I left with other kids for the main kitchens where I signed up for the Junior Chef program. Each of us made a Sponge Cake and even had a topping competition to see who had the most. Everyone added a lot of candies on top more than enough for a mouthful of cavities. There was no winner and we all tied each other. We all had huge smiley faces on the pictures and even creamy flavor on the certificates.
I was welcomed back by a racing video game competition and dominated everyone except the computer which smashed all of our cars over (cheater)! It was full of fun. I started to believe that time could fly. In what seemed like seconds, I sat in the dining room.
After eating lunch, I went back to the Youth Center in no time. Once all gathered together, we headed to the court for a dodgeball competition. This time, the boys played against the girls. The girls served the balls first, but the shots they threw appeared so light that you might think a fly hit you. In the next match, the girls teamed with the teachers against the boys. However, they couldn't really hide anywhere and were pelted by dearly, flying fuzzballs. The last match turned to our advantage and we began to serve the balls. We arranged ourselves in rows of 4's. I couldn't believe my eyes how fast the girls got out! The game ended with 3-0. The boys won over the girls! To cool off and reduce the calories, we were rewarded with ice cream after the games. All of us liked the plain with no toppings. There wasn't anything but the video games to talk about. So the boys settled down with their noses pointed to the screen of the Play Station 3 for the rest of the day.
