【注】荷兰属于泽国，60%的领域受到水的威胁，而约26%的土地面临被淹没的可能。孩童堤防地处海平面以下，自1740年以来，这里建造的19座风车、水道、堤坝、磨坊和水闸泵站系统一直巧妙地让周围土壤保持干燥，标识着人类智慧不断与水进行斗争。

1997年孩童堤防被联合国教科文组织列入《世界遗产名录》。
